The Sydney harbourfront provides the many classic travelers photos of the city including the opera house, bridge and gardens. It was amazing to see that tourists can climb the bridge – with safety harnesses, of course – and even more amazing was that our Aussie friend Angie told us that she had done it herself!
We had lunch with Harry and Angie whom we met on the second leg of our two African overlanding trips. After lunch, they gave us a quick tour of the Opera House and suggested other things we should see on the harbourfront and in and around the city.

The four days we spent in Sydney were wonderful for the sunshine, for seeing friends we had met in Africa and for the city itself. We did the usual stuff such as visiting the Sydney Opera House, the waterfront, the aquarium, the botanical gardens, souvenir shopping and lots of eating in good restaurants. The photos below are all from the Royal Botanical Gardens on Sydney's waterfront.

Did it rain much on our trip to Australia? How about every day!?! Okay, maybe not every day but 90% of them. When we left the coast north of Sydney we saw many flooded roads, fields, towns, etc.
We had to show you our little camper van where we spent a heck of a lot more time than we had planned to because of the rain. Mom and Allison slept in the camper van while Jacob and I slept in our tent. Preparing food was a bit challenging as we had very little space in which to work, but we managed some reasonably good meals.
We spent many evenings playing Yatzee, drinking wine and trying to hold up conversations under the noise of the rain beating on the roof.

We drove north and south and inland looking for nice weather but wherever we went it was either raining or raining and cold. We decided to return to Port Macquarie after a few days inland so that Allison could get in a second surfing lesson. We got a lot more photos of her, her coach and the amazing waves she was tackling.
Also, a bunch of road signs caught our fancy. We had seen some for cassovaruses, koalas, kangaroos and a bunch of other animals we didn’t even know existed but were intrigued by the number of different signs for elk, deer, moose, who knew?
