Can't Adjust Your Own Room's A/C

It's a shame that I have to give this hotel such a low rating because it's a pretty nice property - but there is a MAJOR PROBLEM here! You can NOT control your own room's air conditioning!

The hotel has the thermostat set at 70 degrees. You can not put it lower to cool your room to your liking. The hotel has also screwed the a/c control panel shut so you cannot open the thermostat to adjust it. As a result, we were roasting in our room all night long. It was hands down the most miserable night I have ever spent in a hotel room. This to me is inexcusable that a hotel would do something like this. If I pay for a room, I should be able to keep the room as cool as I please and not be uncomfortable and sweating all night long!

We stayed in a Junior Suite, a very large and spacious room with a nice big outdoor deck. Surprisingly, the bathroom was extremely small - way too small for a room of this size. It was hard to move around in and you had to step all the way inside before you could open or close the door. Not for those who are claustrophobic!

The room was nicely appointed and was very clean, and the suite had a comfortable workspace, large seating area with chairs and a sofa, and a convenient wet bar with sink and refrigerator.

The hotel is located right by a busy interstate so those sensitive to road noise would probably have a difficult time sleeping here. There is plenty of outdoor free parking.

The hotel has a very good buffet breakfast with made to order waffles and omelets and it is worth a stop in the morning. Service was good at this hotel.

Overall, I would still not recommend this Hilton because of the a/c issue.

Great Service, But Dirty Room

Just got back from my first stay at this property. This is just an average hotel but is a good value since you can usually get rooms for less than $100.00 on Priceline.

THE GOOD

Although I'd booked through a discount booking channel (Priceline), the front desk staff was so friendly! The service was first-rate and the staff treated me like a VIP.

There was ample free parking and a restaurant on-site. Hotel is located within walking distance of downtown Santa Rosa and some good independent shops and restaurants. The hotel also has a free wine tasting in the lobby during the evening.

The security was also good; your room key is required to enter the building and to access and use the elevators to get to your room. Property is very well-lit, too.

This was a great room for business travelers because it was furnished with a nice, large desk and two sitting chairs. The room felt small, but the workspace was large and comfortable. The bathroom was also surprisingly large and well laid out.

I also liked that you can open the room windows to let in fresh air, and the room had a self-controlled air conditioning unit so you can set and keep your room as cool or as warm as you desire! More and more hotels are doing those hotel-controlled a/c units and I am always hot since they turn off the air at night. I like my room to be ice cold during nighttime and I was able to keep it that way during my stay.

THE BAD

The room was just dirty feeling and didn't feel fresh or clean. The upholstered chairs in the room had multiple, large stains and the bedding (duvet and sheet set) was worn and didn't feel or smell fresh. It had an old and musty smell. The bench in the room was torn and the stuffing was falling out, and the fabric on it was also very dirty. The hotel really needs to update their bedding and linens all around. I also think they need to work with their housekeeping staff to insure proper cleaning procedures. The entire room just looked and felt SO DIRTY.

The pillows on the bed were extremely small; you need about 3 to equal the thickness of one regular sized pillow. This proved for an uncomfortable night.

The bathroom had ridiculously thin and scratchy towels that were more suited for a Motel 6 than a Hyatt in wine country! The hotel should be ashamed having such small and thin towels! It is truly an embarrassment to the Hyatt hotel chain!

The "courtyard view" was nothing but a circular courtyard of poured concrete with a few little bushes around. Not what you'd expect of something touted as a courtyard view -- it is not pretty and is not worth paying extra money for this "view."

Safe, Quiet Location, but TOO HOT!

Whenever I am in the Santa Ana area, I like to stay at this hotel. It is safe, comfortable and quiet and is close to the freeway so you can get to where you want to go in L.A. pretty easily. This hotel is only about a 12 minute drive to Disneyland, too. But trust me, it has some serious problems.

The rooms are spacious, especially the executive level rooms. with these rooms you get a larger sitting area with a sofa and other perks like bathrobes to use during your stay. Sometimes you'll get a musty smelling room - I think it is because the hotel is going a little crazy with its energy conservation. They always have the air turned off in the rooms, etc. Which leads me to my main complaint:

My biggest pet peeve when traveling now is when hotels shut off the a/c to the ENTIRE building if they deem it "cool" enough outside, rendering your individual room a/c controls are useless. BEWARE - THIS HOTEL SHUTS OFF THE AIR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. I have trouble sleeping when it is warm, and I have spent several unpleasant nights at this hotel, just waiting for the air to come back on at 8 am. It is ridiculous. Since when are we, as customers, paying to stay in a non air conditioned room? If you stay at this property, please pack your own fan to at least keep the air circulating.

The hotel has an underground parking garage and they charge around $14 per night to park your car, but sometimes they run out of spaces and you have to park across the street in an apartment parking garage (security has to open the gate to let you in and out of this adjacent garage).

This hotel specializes in weddings and banquets, so on the weekends be prepared for loud music / parties in the meeting rooms right off the lobby and a lack of parking spaces for guests.

The hotel is always very clean and is comfortable, and is located in a very safe and quiet office park - this is a great hotel for females traveling alone too. The on-site restaurant is pretty good, with a nice hot breakfast buffet in the morning.

The Worst Doubletree I've Ever Seen

This is, by far, one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in during my entire life. It is without question the worst Doubletree I have ever seen. I travel frequently for both business and leisure, and I have stayed in some very undesirable places - but this one takes the cake! If you only trust one review, make it this one! You will be miserable if you stay at this hotel!

My main "tip" for this hotel is that if you must stay here, make SURE you request a room as far away from the marina as possible. Yes, you won't get much of a view, but you won't be kept awake all night by the continuously noisy and aggravating marina "chime." The chime sounds like a very, very loud elevator dinging. The problem is, it goes off - literally - every 15 seconds. The a/c unit did not drown out the sound for us and if you like to sleep with the windows open, good luck doing it here!

The chime will drive you absolutely batty, and it bothered us to the point that we could only get to sleep a few hours - and we ended up checking out of the hotel the next day and moving to another property. The hotel really needs to warn potential guests about this chime! There are little placards in the guest rooms (see photo), but it is too little too late. The chime noise is so bad, the front desk will even provide ear plugs free of charge if you ask. Ridiculous!

What really bothered me about the hotel is just how worn out everything was. The furnishings in the room were absolutely a disgrace! They were so worn, it was just disgusting! The sofa in the room was horribly stained and the arms looked as if they had been clawed to pieces by a cat! I have posted photos - it is unbelievable! You can SEE the stains and the damage in the photos!

The walls had holes in them (see photos) and the carpet was awfully dirty and stained (again, see photos). I might also add that I am a Hilton HHonors Diamond member (the top loyalty level) and the room I was in was an upgraded executive room! And it was in this horrible condition! I would hate to see what a standard room looks like.

It is worth noting that the hotel is not within walking distance of anything, including and restaurants, stores or fast food. If you are looking for something to eat, you are at their mercy. The on-site restaurant is okay, but it is not open late. If you arrive late to the hotel, your only option (until 10 pm) is Domino's Pizza delivery. Get something to eat before you arrive at this hotel. This is also a sprawling property, so be prepared for a long walk from your room to the common areas.

As for positives, at least there was ample free parking, and free wireless internet access in the lobby.
