Hotel under construction
This hotel is being remodeled and will be really nice when the job is complete. The rooms are comfortable, the location is convenient to most of Charlotte and the staff is friendly. However, it was never mentioned when we made our reservation that the whole lobby area is being revamped. This means that there is no "full breakfast buffet". Instead, the breakfast is in a little room (formerly the fitness room I think) off the makeshift lobby. It was a very disappointing continental breakfast with the usual muffins and bagels in plastic bags, instant oatmeal packets, cereal in little boxes and some bread, English muffins and raisin bread to toast. There were also apples and bananas. There were some cheerleaders staying in the hotel for a competition and it looked like their parents snatched up all the fruit to save for later as there was no fruit left at all our first morning. It was a very high calorie, high carb breakfast. Since the breakfast room is in what used to be the fitness room, the fitness area has been moved to a little office that now contains a stair stepper, a tread mill and a weight bench along with a TV. I needed to burn off all the calories I consumed at breakfast and found the fitness room disappointing. We feel that we should have been informed prior to our visit that the hotel was being remodeled and that the breakfast was just the usual continental fare we can get at most hotels. If we had known we would have stayed someplace else. The reason I gave this hotel a 6 instead of a lower score is because our room was so nice. The rooms are also being upgraded and our room was not totally "new" but it was exceptionally nice. We loved having a suite with a separate bedroom with a TV in both rooms. The living room TV was HD and my husband enjoyed watching the football game on it. Meanwhile, I carried on a phone conversation in the bedroom and didn't disturb his game. Since there is no lobby in the hotel at this point there would have been nowhere to get away to have a phone conversation if we had not had the separate rooms. The king size bed was extremely comfortable as was the couch in the living room. There is no table in the room so eating in the room (there is a small kitchen) is a little difficult. We would stay here again but not while it is under construction.
