Serenity on the Vegas strip

I stayed at the Wynn for the first time and was wowed by the beauty of the hotel inside and out. Even our basic room had nice touches like a wall-mounted LCD TV’s in both the room and bathroom. As expected, the room was spotless and had a very new feel to it. The Wynn, like other hotels on the strip, has a poker rate. If you play 6 hours of poker each day, the room rate is discounted by approximately 50%. Luckily, the Wynn's poker room is one of the finest (though not quite as much action as, say, the Bellagio) so killing 6 hours per day is pretty easy - especially if you split the hours with another guest in your room.

The only major issue that we experienced during our stay was in obtaining a rollaway bed for a third person who was staying with us. When we checked-in, I had requested the rollaway and was promised that it would be delivered to our room ASAP and was even told the usual $50 charge for it would be waived. I was very pleased. However, no such rollaway arrived. As it turned out, we ended up having to call 3 times before a rollaway bed finally came. In fact, one time I called I was told that a rollaway could not be delivered because it would be a "fire hazard". Rrright.

Aside from this incident, we were very happy with our stay at the Wynn. It's a beautiful hotel and quite possibly has the most relaxed environment of any casino hotel on the strip.

Clean, cheap, and friendly

After failing to snag a Western chain hotel for cheap on Priceline, I began to hunt for a reasonably-priced, clean hotel in a convenient location. After spending an hour reading reviews, I locked in on the Royal Hotel and it turned out to be a great decision.

While the street that the hotel is on is far from glamorous (there is at least one strip club on the same block), the neighborhood doesn't have a red-light district feel that an American might expect. In fact, the street was clean and fairly quiet. The best part is that it's less than a 5 minute walk to the Munich Hauptbanhof (main train station).

The rooms are very clean, but basic. Our room was small, two twin beds and minimal closet space, for our needs it was fine.

The buffet breakfast was simple but more than sufficient with eggs, sausage, cold cuts, various breads and pastries, and fruit.

Finally, the free in-room Wi-fi sealed the deal for us.
