Good
Days Inn Hampton Hampton, SC
A Desk clerk with no imagination

This motel was clean and well maintained. However, the customer service was lacking. I arrived around 8pm. I requested a single room. The clerk stated that all she had left were double rooms. I asked her if she would charge the single rate since there was only one of me and due to the lateness of the hour. She stated that it was necessary to charge me for a double. I promised not to disturb the other bed; but she insisted that she would have to charge me for a double anyway. This kind of inflexibility is nonsensical.

Excellent
Microtel Rincon Rincon, GA
Quiet & Clean

I loved how quiet and clean this relatively new motel was. There were no rowdy singles or boisterous kids to be annoyed with. All rooms are interior corridor for those who have a concern about safety. Although, there was not a hint of anything to be concerned about. You have a choice between standard rooms and suites. My suite was well lit and also has a window seat that was flat and could really double as a bed.

Downtown Savannah is 16 miles away and Hilton Head is 32 miles with their beaches and fine restaurants. If you are looking for a quiet place to sleep with a very accommodating staff; then this is the place.

Good
River Street Inn Savannah, GA
An inn with historic creaks and quirks

I have stayed here four times in the last seven years on business. The staff tends to be young student types so they are not the most motivated or knowledgeable about tourist attractions. I suggest you do your own prior research or seek professional guidance somewhere else. I have overheard numerous tourist types become agitated when the staff did not have a ready answer.

I like the River Street Inn because it is a very historic and old structure with the quirkiness that an old building brings. The rooms can be small and cramped or large with a balcony (river view). It's mostly the luck of the draw unless you make your reservations well in advance with a "request". The two restaurants and bar are convenient especially if a summer rain comes about.

The hotel is on River Street so you can walk up and down to your hearts desire. You can walk or ride three streets west to see the real Savannah and avoid most tourists if you like. Parking is an issue; but not insurmountable.

Excellent
The Westin Peachtree Plaza, Atlanta Atlanta, GA
Just great for Georgia Tech football

The Peachtree Plaza is an icon in Atlanta for us Georgia natives. The Sundial restaurant and bar have a revolving panoramic view of downtown Atlanta and sets the stage wonderfully for a romantic night. The bed, linen and bathrobe were extremely plush. In fact, they provide you with a magazine to order the same stuff for your home.

Grant Field at Georgia Tech was visible from my room. The staff purposely assigned me to that side of the hotel so I could get all "jacked up" by looking at the campus prior to the game. There was a young trainee checking me in and she was excellent. Yea, the hotel is pricey but not out of line for downtown. Parking is also pricey in a city that is not known to be pedestrian-friendly. However, a MARTA rail station is nearby.

Across the street is a McDonalds and Hooters if you don't feel like going too far for food. The CNN Center, Georgia Dome, and the Tabernacle are all within easy walking distance.
