The Tunku's Hotel Royale
It’s a basic hotel with the budget traveler in mind. They have a functioning air conditioner, hot and cold water, coffee replenished daily and a few channels from ASTRO. However, the phone was not working. It was clean and with good security, quick access to main Alor Setar's attractions. Tunku's house, now converted into museum of sort was directly behind. The Kedah riverfront provides rustic appeal. Muslim food might be a problem since there are not many surrounding restaurants except a fast food outlet on the ground floor and a mamak 200m away, so be prepared to wander a bit.
