Okay
Homestead SLC-Mid Valley Salt Lake City, UT
Almost home, Homestead Sugarhouse

During an extended service in Salt Lake, I stayed three different times at Homestead Suites. One stay was for two nights, one for a week, and one for two weeks.

This is a good residential set-up. I enjoyed having a kitchen and laundry room on-site. It is located very close to a number of retail shops, grocery stores, movie theatre and restaurants. The rooms were never cleaned on the promised schedule, housekeeping either showed up on a different day than the calendar outlined, or they didn't show up at all.

On my first stay some of the towels showed dark stains, almost like mascara or tar had been wiped up. On the next two trips the rooms were fine, they cleaned more often than I expected, if anything. The first floor was often noisy, lots of people passing by, and loud footsteps overhead. The second floor, the rear of the building was very pleasant. A nature trail that is paved for walking runs behind the building connects with an enjoyable mall. It includes a large bookstore, Wild Oats grocery, a steakhouse and fast food joints -- plus Nordstrom Rack, Old Navy and the Sundance Outlet store made this enjoyable in the evening.

They offer high speed internet for a fee and the service had a terrific phone support team when I needed to call for help.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Homestead SLC-Mid Valley.
I might recommend it to friends.

Okay
La Quinta Inn & Suites Denver Airport DIA Denver, CO
La Quinta Inn - Denver Airport

We tried to book a one night stay on the way to Mexico, and found our travel date was also the weekend of a major sporting event in Denver. Rooms were in short supply but La Quinta had space. The hotel appears to be located off the beaten path, but near the airport. Their rates were reasonable and the room itself was spacious. It included a comfortable couch and coffee table, desk and chairs along with one of the biggest and brightest white bathrooms I've ever seen in a hotel. A small refrigerator and microwave plus coffee maker were available, along with a very nice free continental breakfast in the morning. I liked the fact that they had food ready even when we had to get to the airport by 6 am.

The service from reception staff was off, they seemed really irritated to be asked for recommendations on where to eat dinner. The lobby was empty except for us that night, and the staff looked like they were doing crossword puzzles. This La Quinta is located near a Bennigan's steak place and Village Inn, as well as several other hotels. The hotel next door had a restaurant which was empty and closed by 8pm. The pancake house was also empty. Bennigan's was jumping and the food was really good.

On our way back from Mexico we stayed here again and the staff that night was excellent. On that stay, Bennigan's delivered right to our room, so no shivering walk down the road in the cold. Behind the hotel there is new building going on, including a Ruby Tuesdays restaurant. They do offer free airport shuttles. Get your name on the list for the shuttle or you may find yourself battling flight crews in the morning who think they have first selection on the bus. We'd stay here again. It's a good deal for the price, and they even bake fresh cookies in the evening (check the lobby!).

I am somewhat likely to return to the La Quinta Inn & Suites Denver Airport DIA.
I might recommend it to friends.

Good
Elizabeth Street Inn Newport, OR
Mixed experience

The hotel faces the ocean with a beautiful view. The rooms are very well appointed, luxury linens and a bathrobe to borrow while you enjoy the place. The service is the weak point, every time we have stayed we've witnessed management berate the staff in a way that was extremely unprofessional, or have found management sullen and difficult.

Their rates are on the high/above average side for Oregon coast properties, but well worth the money spent (if you can handle the personality issues.) One can walk directly onto the beach from the hotel exit. There are several very good restaurants in the area (try Georgies, located next door, or Quimby's up the street.) The hotel itself does not house a restaurant or provide room service. They do have very good coffee in the lobby. The "deluxe continental breakfast" includes yogurt, fruit and cereal. It's not very deluxe, but it is free.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Elizabeth Street Inn.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Good
Adobe Resort Yachats, OR
Adobe 4 Ever!

The Adobe is located along one of my favorite stretches of Oregon beach. The hotel is located right next to Smelt Sands - a small park where the waves will crash up on the pebbled beach. It's an easy walk into the village of Yachats, and the on-premise restaurant is usually very good.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, we really like the north corner room upstairs that has a small deck, fireplace and a fridge. There's even a Jacuzzi unit! The rooms are not totally up-to-date but nothing seems overly worn out. The rooms are perhaps on the high average side for Oregon coastal properties, but they do a brisk business during peak season and weekends, it's sometimes hard to get seated at the restaurant without reservations, and rooms do go fast.

They have a very friendly staff. This is a place that people have been coming to for years, so you see a mix of young people, families and more mature adults. There are pet rooms and a few "smoking" rooms. They always seem to have the same sad cowboy songs coming out of the lounge, but the drinks are good. I love the salad bar, and the fresh fish. The Sunday brunch includes champagne and more pastry options than you can imagine! Most of all, enjoy the incredible ocean view from the restaurant. Bring a jacket and enjoy the ocean breeze!

I am very likely to return to the Adobe Resort.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
