Unfavorable and unsafe
This is just a heads-up to would-be visitors to this hotel in Wailea. My wife and I were there in June and had an intruder break in our room while we were sleeping and steal many thousands of dollars worth of personal effects. I awoke to find some guy running past the end of our bed hauling out my suitcase. The officer from Maui PD advised that Maui suffers from a severe meth problem and that our experience was one of several that night in Wailea. We also learned that we were lucky as some of these incidents have had tragic consequences! They also advised that Wailea is a common target because of its affluent tourist traffic. The Marriott/Renaissance has denied any responsibility, despite the fact that there were many indications of an inside job.
We're glad to be back home alive to tell the story but obviously disappointed to have a vacation of a lifetime ruined by a terrifying experience.
PS: Check-in took 3 hours and it took their security 20 minutes to get to our room, at 1:30 am.
