Another Days Inn

After successfully bidding with Priceline, we paid about $50.00 for this room.

In the past, my experiences with Days Inn properties has been mostly negative and although this property was the best Days Inn we've stayed in, it still wasn't the experience we had hoped for. The hotel is nicely situated to the highway and is easily accessible to other parts of OKC. The lobby was clean and promising, hotel staff were friendly and efficient, and we noted upon check-in that they offered a continental breakfast. We requested a room on the opposite side of the hotel to be away from the adjoining bar and strip club, something that may "red flag" solo travelers or families traveling with small children.

Our room was very clean and our king size bed was comfortable and extra pillows were provided. Our room also came with a small sofa and sofa table, a desk, a 2-cup coffee pot, a hair-dryer, and that was just about it. The furnishings were in need of updates -- think vintage 80's and you won't be disappointed. We found it difficult to stay asleep because the outside lighting was so intense, we thought it was morning every time we woke up. At one point, I woke up and saw a small cockroach crawling on the top of the night stand next to my bed. That said, I can't recommend this hotel and in keeping with my view of other Days Inn properties -- you are advised to look somewhere else.

Rogue's rip-off

This is a nicely situated "inn" in the middle of historic Eureka Springs. I say, "inn" because there only about four rooms in this establishment, sort of like a bed-and-breakfast, but they do not provide breakfast. We chose this "inn" to spend our seventh wedding anniversary. After plumping down $100 to stay mid-week in the off season, we were a bit astonished that we could not eat breakfast and we could not afford to pay $40 for an 8 ounce filet mignon. The restaurant and bar are really top-notch, but the menu prices have increased significantly from the time we ate there in 1999. They wouldn't even provide a discount for people staying there. Cheap! Cheap!

This wasn't the only thing we were disappointed with this establishment. We chose the "Penthouse" a room that you will need to climb four flights of steep stairs and a flash light to find situated on the back side of the place. After locating the pad lock at the bottom of a sliding glass door, we were impressed to see a very large bed with luxurious bedding and a Jacuzzi large enough for three people, but this is where the good impression ended.

The furniture was some sort of miss-matched pieces, for example: For a night stand, we had a tray table that looked like it might have strayed off a Wal-Mart shelf and a bar stool with a couple of holes in the vinyl top. Although we had numerous lighting, some of the light bulbs weren't working. There was a long red couch of vintage Victorian era, a 19" color television and a DVD player. The bathroom was located behind an Oriental screen, which was okay, except it looked almost forgotten. The shower curtain was hideous and although there were two shower heads, the water pressure wasn't adequate to serve one. The toilet was a step up from the shower stall, and a bit awkward to sit on, and the towel bar was broken! But perhaps most disappointing was that they did not service the room during our two night stay. What sort of hotel/inn/motel establishment doesn't even make the beds? Given these sort of details, I couldn't recommend that anyone stay at this place.

I am not likely to return to the Rogue's Manor.
I would not recommend it to friends.

A majestic hotel

The Brown is a historic hotel situated at Broadway and 4th street in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. The interior of the hotel is fashioned with period antiques and in the English Renaissance style. The hotel is exquisitely and lavishly furnished, with a beautifully painted tin ceiling, wrought ironwork surrounding the second level, marble, granite, and tiled floors.

The hotel features complimentary high speed wireless internet, airport transportation, morning newspapers, a 24-hour fitness center and business center, valet parking, and 24 hour room service. Parking for valet is $20; parking garage is $12 per day and must be validated.

Check-in was fast and efficient. Our room was furnished with a king-size bed, a large closet with iron and ironing board, an antique replica dresser, an enormous bathroom, and superior bedding.

The bathroom features a standard bathtub, a five function shower head, a hair dryer, two large windows, white marble floors, a black granite vanity sink, a telephone and English toiletries. The ceramic tile in the shower showed some mildew, the window curtains were a bit shabby, and the towels were a disappointment. Also, the robe hook needed to be repaired. The bathroom door features an odd, keyed lock.

The room has two large windows with curtains that were a bit dated, a small desk with a lamp that flickered mysteriously and a phone. We had two additional table lamps on nightstands located on either side of the bed. Our king-size bed included six down pillows, a throw, pristine white sheets and an older style telephone.

There were two sitting chairs, a four drawer antique replica dresser, a four-cup coffee maker, a disappointing 19" television that featured only 26 stations, a digital clock radio, a full length mirror on the inside of the closet door, a fold-away luggage rack, a dated ice bucket, and dull-looking wall paper. I thought the room was a bit small for the $119 we paid for our three night stay.

The hotel itself appears to be well maintained, staff are friendly and responsive. The decor beautiful and plush, although the lighting in the hallways was a bit inadequate.

We thought the telephone rates to be excessive ($1.50 for local calls). The hotel features four different restaurants, two bars and an art gallery. We found the restaurants to be very expensive, i.e. $13 for a cheeseburger.

It’s a beautiful, classic hotel with notorious service and excellence. It may be a bit pricey and extravagant for the budget-minded traveler.

I am very likely to return to the The Brown Hotel.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

High end, high price, poor service

This is probably one of the most beautiful hotels in the Kansas City area, and just what one might expect from Embassy Suites. The overall theme was a Spanish Mission style replete with beautiful wrought iron, a huge stone fountain, tiled floors, and certainly a great place to have a nice siesta.

The bi-level pool is both an indoor and outdoor pool built in such a way to create a water fall. The Jacuzzi is nearby and both the Jacuzzi and the pool are larger than other hotels in this size and class.

We were here for a conference, so we did not stay at the hotel. The desk staff seemed to be "out of the loop" when we asked about where our conference was. We finally found it without any of his help. The catering service was exceptionally slow, and as conference coordinator, I was dismayed that they had not lived up to their part of the agreement.

At lunch, I waited almost 10 minutes to be seated at the Cattleman's Restaurant located in the Embassy Suites. I waited 10 minutes standing in front of the hostess podium and not one person stopped to even greet me. I just stood there watching the staff walk back and forth, and wondered if I was invisible. Then, I realized that the same staff that was catering the conference was the same staff running the restaurant, responsible, for setup, housekeeping, and I think I recognized another person from the front desk.

Given the price of this hotel ($150 per night), I would think that service would be excellent and efficient, instead the staff seem overworked and unconcerned. I'm glad that we stayed at the Homestead Suites about 7 miles away, while it is in no way to be compared to the Embassy Suites, the value and service of Homestead Suites outclassed even the Embassy Suites.

I am not likely to return to the Embassy Suites Kansas City.
I would not recommend it to friends.
