Older, but still nice

We have stayed at the Northland several times over 10 years. It hasn't changed much and that's a good thing. The rooms are suites, so there's a lot of space. The Jacuzzi tubs are wonderful, they’re quite huge! There's lots of room in the sitting area: a sofa, chair, table and chairs. All in all, it’s very comfortable.

Lovely boutique French Quarter hotel

We thought this hotel was quite the find. We got what we considered to be a good rate, under $150 per night, and stayed for three nights in early Dec. 2006.

Our room was small, but lovely. The bathroom was even smaller, but we had a shared balcony over a French Quarter street (the guest for the adjoining balcony never appeared, so we had the balcony to ourselves the whole time). I loved the French doors leading to the balcony, but it was a bit noisy with all the traffic below.

Next time we might select a garden view room. We enjoyed the Sunday buffet in the cafe. The staff were friendly and helpful, although the front desk told us they couldn't get us a room with two beds (that we had reserved), yet I saw them re-room another guest minutes later. This hotel is a little off the beaten track and at the edge of the French Quarter, but we enjoyed the walk. We would stay at this hotel again.

We had a huge room

This is an older hotel and not quite what you would expect of a Hyatt, but it is in a good location at one end of River Walk along the Savannah River.

We had a huge corner room with enormous windows on two walls. Our view of the river was incredible and we would watch the huge cargo ships slowly glide in and out of port. The bed and pillows were wonderful; they’re up to Hyatt standards. The bathroom was small and older. We prefer the River Street Inn when we're in Savannah, but the Hyatt is probably the next best thing for the location. As far as room rates, though, the Hyatt is more expensive.

Boutique hotel in a great location

We've stayed at the River Street Inn in Savannah a number of times over the last 15 years. We weren't quite as impressed on our last trip in October 2006.

The reception staff wasn’t particularly helpful or friendly, they seemed distracted and had no interest in us as guests. Our room was so small, there wasn't much space to walk around and there was no surface space to put things on. We had one small window and no balcony. When we were taken to our room, there were linens piled in front of each room in the hallway that hadn't been picked up (and it was afternoon). Parking was in a city ramp a block away.

The positives: This is a historic hotel with a lot of charm, the happy hour canapés were wonderful, the location is right on the Savannah River, the side porch rocking chairs are great, and Huey's restaurant is located on the ground level. If we stay here again, we'll get a larger room with a balcony.
