We stayed in suites at Trapper Inn that had beds with comforters, and a blower and ceiling fan to circulate the heat when the temperature was 7 degrees outdoors. In addition to television in the bedroom, there was a television in the adjoining living room that had a sofa, desk and kitchen. A dressing room and bath stood between the living room and bedroom. The suites were spacious, clean, and homey.

A generous continental breakfast is available above the main lobby and accessed by stairs or an elevator. The service at the front desk is prompt and courteous. Best of all, there are two computers available to keep in touch with the outside world. You can't go wrong with Trapper Inn!

Old Faithful Snow Lodge was designed by Robert Remmer and opened on July 8, 1998 after winter tourism became popular. It offers all the amenities of a superb restaurant, grill, gift shop, clothing and equipment rental store, and library. A fireplace with rocking chairs makes the lobby a comfortable place to read about Old Faithful geyser a few yards away. Wooden beams and yellow lamps trimmed in copper bear and elk images add to the restful ambiance. An abundance of maps and brochures are available at the nearby Visitor Information Center.

The Snow Lodge is the only hotel open year-round at Yellowstone. It has 54 guest rooms with comfortable beds, a bathroom and dressing room.

There is no television, radio, computer or cell phone service, but games and puzzles are available. The hotel is managed by Xanterra Parks and Recreation and the park rangers. Guided team of snowcoaches and snowmobiles are dispatched here. During a recent blizzard, Xanterra contacted all visitors in the park by radio and safely brought them in. When it's 18 degrees outside in the wintertime, what could be better than a warm room and 24-hour hot beverage service? Gray Wolf Inn provides that and more. A fan keeps warm air circulating throughout the room. Views of snow-covered buildings, five-foot drifts, and snowy roads sparkle in the sunshine. When I needed to contact a family member who was leaving the hospital, Lawrence let me use the hotel's internet behind the front desk.

West Yellowstone is a town in Idaho on the border of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. There are plenty of maps and publications about the park available at Gray Wolf Inn. Best of all, there is a Grizzly Bear Habitat across the street where you can experience, elk, wolves, and bears up-close for $9.00.

If you like sunshine glistening on snowy trees and hills, and a warm cozy lodge with grand fireplaces, you'll like Sun Mountain Lodge. It's located on Highway 20, five hours' drive from Seattle. Or you can fly or helicopter in. Every room has a magnificent view of the Methow Valley and surrounding mountains. Bring your CDs. Each room is equipped with a CD player. TVs are available in the common areas.

You'll see the sun glinting off high glaciers at sunrise and sunset. There are sleigh rides, cross-country ski trails, ice skating, and hot pools in the winter. In the summer, you can enjoy fly fishing, river rafting, canoeing, tennis, golf, and horseback riding.

Thanksgiving is a feast with a buffet of salads, roasted vegetables, ham, salmon, roast beef, turkey and apple, pecan, and pumpkin pies offered from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. The service is fast and friendly in the 4-Star Dining Room overlooking the valley. If you want a get-away with blue skies and wide spaces all around you, Sun Mountain Lodge is unbeatable!
