Not so good

We stayed here because it was close to an event we attended and the price was better than most of the other hotels in the area.

The good: Fairly large room. They gave us a free "welcome basket" with snacks and various sundry items. Free WiFi. Location is within walking distance of numerous restaurants in all price ranges and venues for sporting and other events. Free breakfast.

The bad: The outside of the hotel was dirty and nasty. The lobby, elevators, and hallways were well worn and in need of renovation. Parking costs $7.50 extra per night (though this was clearly stated when I made the reservation). The bed was a little too firm. It was noisy (you could hear your neighbors, people in the hallway, and outside noises in the room). Small bathroom. There was a hole in the wall in the bathroom between the door and the shower and there was a large cut-out in the wall under the sink. No refrigerator or microwave in room. The hotel is right at the edge of a blighted area. If you turn right, all the shops and restaurants are boarded up. To the left is a renovated area with shows, upscale restaurants and such. While I was checking in or passing through the lobby, I heard three different people complaining to the front desk about various problems. I've never seen more than one person complain in any other hotel I've stayed in.

Overall, if you're in the area, pay a little more for a nicer place.

I am not likely to return to the Comfort Inn Downtown Cleveland.
I would not recommend it to friends.

Find a better place

I never seem to have good luck with Quality Inns. You'd think I would have learned by now, but it was midnight and I was traveling and needed a place to stay. I should have stayed at the Holiday Inn down the street instead.

The good: Large room and bathroom. Free breakfast. Free WiFi.

The bad: Very sparse and plain looking room. Worn and stained furniture. Bathroom floor had lots of scuffs and a cigarette burn, even though it was a non-smoking room. Knob missing on one of the bedside lamps. No refrigerator or microwave. Bed too firm. Small TV.

Overall, I wouldn't stay here again. In fact, I will try to avoid all "Quality" Inns in the future. Comfort Inns seem to be much better if you stay at Choice Hotel properties.

I am not likely to return to the Quality Inn and Suites Des Moines.

Not a bad place to stay

Not a bad place to stay if you're in the area.

The good: Fairly large room. Clean. Quiet. Bed was OK (not great, but not really firm like some places). Free WiFi. There are restaurants within walking distance. Price wasn't too bad.

The bad: The bathroom was small, but the sink is seperate and outside the bathroom.

Overall, a good place to stay.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Comfort Inn Evanston.
I might recommend it to friends.

Extremely Rustic

I stayed in one of the small cabins. It was very basic and rustic, to the point of being somewhat charming. It snowed during the night, which made it even more charming.

The good: Well, there is a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker in the room, but that's about it. There is a small store in the main "lodge" where you can buy essentials. There is a restaurant across the road. The bed was fairly soft, but that's because it is well worn. Close to Crater Lake National Park.

The bad: Small room. No TV. Small bathroom. Worn and stained furniture. Room didn't seem all that clean. Unprofessionally patched tile in bathroom. Leaky Faucet. Broken blinds. No WiFi. The rooms in the main "lodge" have shared bathrooms. Expensive for what you get.

Overall, even though I'm rating this a 3 due to the items listed above, it is very rustic and somewhat charming. It would have been more fun if my wife was along, but without a TV or reading material, it was boring. I might even stay here again if my wife was with me.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Union Creek Resort
