Fun, hip boutique perfect for shoppers
The myhotel Chelsea was a welcome surprise. While not on par with many of the features offered at larger hotels, they make the experience homey with softly hued walls, a unique lounge and Asian-themed spa, incense and a 24-hour plate of scones.
Located just off several blocks of great shopping, famed London stores such as The Conran Shop are within two minutes walking distance.
My room was small but carefully appointed with a key-access safe, Aveda toiletries, DVD player, comfy robes and slippers and a deep bathtub. Internet access is wireless, but guests must purchase access codes from the front desk to gain access to the Web (which was a bit annoying as every 24 hours I needed to go to the front desk to purchase a new card - many times in the middle of the night.) A 24-hour business center and lounge is free and offers two computers and a printer, as well as a selection of books, magazines and DVDs.
Admittedly, I would have preferred more electical outlets in the rooms (I had to alternate charging various devices as one of the open outlets was hidden behind one of the twin beds) but the location is what really makes this hotel experience worth the (modest) charge.
The South Kensington tube station is a seven-minute walk from the hotel, and the recommended mode of transportation given the cost of cabs from this location in Chelsea to the popular tourist areas of London.
Overall, a great hotel in which to camp out while taking in the sights of London. For business travelers, it's worth noting that well-appointed meetings rooms are available on their lower level.
