Very Disappointed
I stayed here before, and returned with great expectations. It's not as I remembered. Pros: the beds very comfortable and the bedroom quiet, and the staff very friendly and in some cases (mainly the night manager) efficient. Cons: It started with my not getting the room layout I had requested months in advance, and they couldn’t move me. Then I was checked out by mistake after only 2 days, and I was reserved for 8. To their credit they called me to confirm and did not remove my belongings. The cooked to order breakfast was terrible. The menu never varied, the eggs artificial and tasteless, and the omelet’s vegetables are raw, the coffee is made from syrup. The hours are 6:30-9:30, so much for sleeping in. There is a waterway that runs through the dining area. Last time it was crystal clean and filled with golden carp. This time it was mossy and filled with brown turtles (carp too, but they had taken to hiding all the time). That could have worked, but it just gave the impression of being dirty. You have to request most amenities to be delivered. The heat/cooling system was thunderously loud. The room was dust free, but there were dirty fingerprints. Parking is very expensive, $26 a day. Wireless internet is not free, it’s $10 a day and extremely slow, and there are limited outlets for electricity. (There are three free landline computers in the lobby- but you can’t send or retrieve files externally.) TV is minimal and anything more has a fee. I left something behind that was time sensitive to my career, and couldn't even get a call-back. It took 6 calls, 4 people, and 28 hours to finally get the answer: nothing yet, they were still looking. Housekeeping didn't find anything yet.
Until that last event, I thought the staff had minimal control over the situation and really tried with what they have to deal with, but I changed my mind. It seems the name is all you are buying here, not the tradition it was built on. I plan to explore other options from here on in.
