Good
Bartolomeo Venice Hotel Venice
Great location and value

Hotel Bartolomeo is in a perfect location. Very close to the Rialto Bridge and two stops from the train station, it is easy to get to and get back to after wandering the city. The staff is friendly and the rooms are small and simple, but clean and adequate. The shower is very tiny, but sufficient. The breakfast is a bit sparse, but everything else was great.

Horrible
Cimabue Florence
Big disappointment

We booked the Hotel Cimabue based on its website and other reviews and were severely disappointed when we checked in. The rooms are old, smelly and dirty with little light. The miniature shower is in the room itself, not the bathroom and there were mosquitoes and other bugs around. The walls were dirty and in major need of new paint. The breakfast was decent, but the staff was rather unfriendly. This hotel is in a great location, and comes with a high pricetag that does not match the quality.

Excellent
Alla Porta Rosa - Verde Acqua Manarola, Italy (Cinque Terre)
Fantastic lodging

Alla Porta Rossa has several rooms for rent in Manarola, along the Cinque Terre. We stayed at Verde Acqua and thought it was spectacular. Despite the many, many stairs climbed to get there, we found the room had ample space (including a full kitchen) and the owners were some of the most accomodating people we met in Italy. The room was clean and open and came equipped with many supplies incuding laundry soap, sugar, shampoo, etc. We recommend this place very highly.

Okay
Grand Hotel Imperiale Como
Beautiful location, needs a makeover

The grounds of the Grand Hotel Imperiale are stunning and the location is great - a quiet spot along Lake Como. However, the room we stayed in was old and stodgy and had an odd smell. If you like activity and restaurant options, stay in Bellagio or Como. I'm sure there were nicer rooms than ours, but we didn't think the accomodation lived up to the website or the price tag. The staff was very friendly and accomodating.
