This has become our favorite getaway spot. A spectacular view, and a very quiet location. Let me tell you what this is not:
This is not a night life hot spot. This is not ultra luxurious, nor even semi-luxurious. This is not the place with the wonderful dining experience, or the place where you are waited on hand and foot. The place is old--it used to be Zane Grey's house. The rooms are small. The bathrooms and showers are miniscule. There are no TVs. There are no telephones. There is no breakfast buffet, mints on the pillows, or fresh baked cookies at night. In the morning you'll get toast and fruit. It's at the top of a hill and you have to walk up and down, unless you get one of the free shuttles at specified times.
But here's what this place is:
Waking up to a breathtaking ocean view. Quiet--No screaming kids, dogs, parties, or loud music. A small but refreshing pool. Small but comfortable rooms. Did I mention the view? Very friendly office staff, that do help if you need it. A very romantic location up on the hill and away from the hustle and bustle of the main drag of Avalon.
It is a workout to climb up and down the hill, but after lazing around and eating too much food, it's just what we love. It's totally worth the $200/night price in the busy season, and a complete steal in the winter.
Do yourself a favor, and get an ocean view room. You may never want to leave.
