36 year old male with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

This was a first trip to Puerto Rico. First of all, rent a car, if you don't you are stuck at the hotel and have to live with where and when they can take you and what they want to charge and be assured this hotel is all about the money! When we checked in they asked for a card for incidentals, they didn't say they were going to try to authorize it for $400, I talked them down to to $100, by the way, they didn't tell me that would be $100 a day, never mind the fact that I never charged more than the $15 daily parking fee to the room. Oh, by the way, that is not true, they charge $15 every time you come back to the hotel and park, not $15 daily, unless you call them on it.

Eat local, with a car, you can check out local cuisine. We Tried Ritchie's, right up the hill, it was the best view we had while eating and very nice but I would not say the best food. We also tried Don Pepe's and Antojito's which are right by the resort and had excellent local food, they are right off of rt. #3 where you turn off to the resort. Also check out the Beachcomber for souvenirs, it is also right off rt. #3 where you turn off to the resort. They have really nice things made by local people for very cheap prices, not your usual tourist junk, right by Don Pepe's actually. If you want true local food head to the Kiosks in Luquillo east of the resort off rt. #3. Try any you want but don't miss #2 La Parilla?, really good food.

Definitely visit El Yunque which is the Rainforest, it is right across the Hwy from the road to the hotel. Just drive as far as you can and then hike to the peak, it is the best view of the island you will ever see. Also, visit the Bio bay in Jajardo if you can, it is a night tour in a sea kayak and the night we were there it was a truly amazing experience. Old San Juan is nice too for an afternoon or a day.

I had a good time in Puerto Rico and I definitely plan to return, hopefully, I speak more Spanish then but it was fun because of the beauty, the food, the people and the experience. I have to say the only low point of the trip was my experience with this resort, I was at the desk daily to complain about something, usually monetary and was repeated lied to by them. The staff was great and very helpful, don't be afraid to ask them about local places and things to do, they were our best resource and probably the only reason I would consider returning to this resort other than being right on the ocean.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Wyndham Rio Mar Beach.
I might recommend it to friends.

50 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

For years we've been enjoying the Rio Mar Resort seasonally. Our favorite time of the year is February, although we also love the ocean during the summer. We are very dissapointed at Wyndham's new administration of the resort. They have spent millions refurbishing and remodeling the casino and some areas at the hotel, but have spent little else at the resort. The golf courses are very badly kept compared with the previous administration. The tennis center, once renowned, receives no upkeep and the roads leading to it are filled with potholes. I heard Wyndham is planning on building over 800 time-share units at the resort. To do that, they will significantly alter and shorten the golf courses and will eliminate the entire tennis center! Management at the hotel and a 7th floor "presentation" of the Wyndham Vacation Club Ownership confirmed these plans to us. We were so dissapointed! The resort is not only loosing it's charm already, but it is on the way of practical extinction as we know it and towards a very unattractive concept. The food has not improved and is even pricier now. Parking is still scarce (has always been a problem) and also expensive. The ammenities in general are less than before while prices are not to par with offerings. Also, they are building huge beachfront projects that have already taken away most of the views to the ocean and the natural landscape is rapidly dissapearing. What a pity!

The hotel itself was beautiful. However, after some friends rented a car I learnt that the tours were very overpriced. They charge about forty eight dollars to do the rain forest tour when it only cost three dollars for adults to get in. The last two nigh

Haven't been to this resort in awhile and was really impressed with what we saw. The hotel in situated on the ocean so the view is spectacular. The two pools are very nice. One is more for kids and the other for the adults. Great little slide for kiddies. Service for food/drinks around the pool is an added perk. Water has great waves. Good for body surfing or with the boards. All restaurants were good. Especially the Italian and Sushi. Golf courses in good shape. Rooms are fine. Could use a little updating but still satisfactory. All new bedspreads. Some great little puerto rican restaurants nearby. We went to Richies up on the hill. Great view of the Atlantic. Recently Wyndham bought this from the Westin. They are making improvements so we are looking forward to returning in a year. Casino is being renovated and will be ready Oct. 2007. We took two college aqe and two 23 year olds and they had alot of fun at this resort. A trip to Old San Juan was a highlight. Drank Sangria and munched on Tapas at The El Convento.

I loved all the hotel's amenities and the room was exquisite! In addition, the staff members were very professional, supportive and kind. The food was delicious, but a bit pricey in some of the fancier restaurants. I was not enthused much with the beach-perhaps it was because of so much rain, but the brown sand, which may be typical now in Pr and the muddy waters were a turn-off.

I am not likely to return to the Wyndham Rio Mar Beach.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
