Okay
37 year old with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

For the cost of staying at this "fine new hotel", it sure needed upgrading. It was just a basic room. The bathroom has no tub, only a shower. The shower looked totally used and worn. The housekeeping staff made mistake after mistake. We just felt fo

Excellent
traveling for leisure

Gettysburg is not known for its fine lodging experience. This is really very nice for the area. The room has good space. There are nice amenities. Some of the public spaces are more intimately lit than some might like but they are nice and cozy

Why is that sun waking me up? – Posted Jul 11, 2008

Horrible
37 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

When I arrived, I asked the clerk at the counter what their breakfast included. She told me all of the delicacies their restaurant had to offer. I asked again if the hotel provided, even at the very least, a continental breakfast... again, "No, just at our restaurant." I had also asked about a refrigerator in our room (that cost me an extra $10/night!!). At this point, I was still fine... a little questioning of their amenities since this is supposedly a luxury hotel. But the next morning when I was awoken at 5:45 am because the curtains are designed NOT to shut, I called down to the desk. Their response, "Oh, aren't the drapes lovely, they are designed to allow the light in!!!" I told them I usually get a hotel so I can sleep. They again informed me they could do nothing. Shop around, I'm sure you can find a Motel 6 that has a frig, breakfast and curtains that will shut and not let the morning sun waken you. If this is a luxury hotel, save your money, it isn't even close to being worth it.

Am returning to this hotel in July. – Posted May 22, 2008

Excellent
54 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

Just outside the town of Gettysburg. Room was nice and large, but could use a few more lights and/or stronger light bulbs. Bathroom had a nice, large shower instead of a tub-shower combo. The single, large shower was perfect for my 81-year old mother. Already planning a return this July with additional family members.

Mediocre
36 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for business

When I first checked into the new Wyndham Hotel for a conference, I thought "Wow, this hotel is really nice!" However, by the end of my 2-night stay I felt otherwise.

The beds were horribly uncomfortable. Although the mattress was firm, it was topped with feather beds and feather comforters whose long spines were poking me all night (certainly not down). To remedy this, request a non-allergenic room. Two nice modern touches were the digital thermostat and flat screen TV. At the time, (Feb 2007) rooms did not have any refrigerators or microwaves, just coffee makers. Bring your own bottled water. You will find the tap water is awful.

The gym also looked great at first with 3 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, 1 bike and universal gym but the equipment was cheap and I suspect it will all be broken within a year. One nice touch though was the available water and towels

The food was average with few choices in the bar and restaurant. My travel companions and I felt the coffee tasted bitter and metallic. Sadly, liberal doses of cream and sugar could not fix it so we drove up the road to Sheetz for our morning fix.

By the end of the conference, I felt like I'd stayed in a place that just looked good but was not really intended to be used, kinda like a model home with good looking but cheap accessories. A classic example was that several of the presidential paintings in the lobby were warped and the canvases were falling out of their frames.

If you want a nice hotel, check out the Marriott next door. If you want a place to crash for a night, then this place is fine.

It's a great new hotel – Posted Dec 31, 2006

Excellent
29 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

I stayed here for New Year's weekend 2006-2007. It's an extremely new hotel, in fact, they are still moving furniture into the side lobby and opening up the store. Despite this, it is a great hotel.

I had my doubts staying in this new of a place, figuring that they wouldn't have the kinks worked out. However, the operations were almost flawlessly.

The room was very nice, it was well appointed, and had an extremely comfortable bed and five pillows. The 27" HDTV flat screen was sweet as well. My only minor complaint was that the water in the swimming pool was a tad cold. Everything else simply perfect, and I consider myself to be fairly critical of most hotels.

Definitely THE place to stay in Gettysburg. It's only 2 miles (less than 5 minutes) from the battlefield and the main portions of town, with very easy access.

The hotel restaurant, 1863, is somewhat high end for most hotels, but probably on-par with most Wyndham restaurants. Meals from $20 and up. We didn't eat there, but I met the Sous Chef--very nice, polite man. They serve 3 meals a day.
