Hotel Review by a traveler from Atchison, KS - Posted Nov 15, 05
58 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for business

The hotel was very beautiful, in a great location and well kept. The room was very small but well kept up. The staff was very distant and not helpful unless asked a specific question. The desk staff was very slow.

I am very likely to return to the Westin St Francis.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

This is a grand old, venerable classic in the middle of the Union Square shopping district and right on the Powell Street Cable Car line. The lobby is always abuzz with interesting, typically wealthy-looking beautiful people, arms laden with shopping bags. A place to see and be seen.

Unless you're paying for a top-end suite, you simply MUST insist on a room in the "new" tower, not the old side of the hotel. While the old hotel looks far more charming, the rooms are small and extremely musty and should be avoided at all costs. Fight for your rights.

Also, if you're a Starwood Preferred member, do not expect to get any preferential treatment if you sign up for this hotel through Expedia or another intermediary. The hotel staff will give you no special service (e.g. room upgrades). Indeed, you're not even allowed to stand in the shorter, "Gold Preferred" line up at reception.

In the tower, the rooms are huge but comfortable. Very tastefully decorated, this Westin almost has the flair of a W but for a lower cost.

And don't forget to have a drink in the lobby bar. A unique, old-world experience.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Westin St Francis.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Internet service and parking price was atrocious. Tub had soap scum in bottom of it. Beds only double sized, too small for comfortable sleep. Concierge was rude.

I am not likely to return to the Westin St Francis.
I would not recommend it to friends.

29 year old woman with a economy budget, traveling for business

The hotel's location is good, but it was very noisy because of striking workers. The room was too old and musty. The bathroom was too old and cramped. The bed was not as comfortable as advertised. Also, I didn't get the 10 pillows they advertised; I only got 4 pillows.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Westin St Francis.
I might recommend it to friends.

I loved it. The bed was so comfortable and the staff was friendly. I needed a lint brush, and they brought me one in five minutes. It was just amazing. I will definitely stay there again.

This hotel made me feel inspired: It's a great place! It made me want to work harder and save money so that I can stay there all the time.

I am very likely to return to the Westin St Francis.

The window in the room was sealed with black electrical tape. It was very windy and the wind noise was bothersome throughout the night.

This hotel made me feel relaxed: I never felt rushed in any way. Everyone was helpful and kind.

We were pleasantly surprised by the price. The hotel itself was beautiful and luxurious. They were very friendly and helpful and also supplied us with limo service at the same cost as a taxi. We were very pleased. This would be a great hotel for anyone to stay!

This hotel made me feel elegant: The decor, the staff, the fresh flowers, the architecture and the classy room all lend to the elegance. We were also impressed with the extras in the room, including the oriental bubble bath. The art and styling of the room was extra special as well.

I am very likely to return to the Westin St Francis.

Other than the disorganized check-in process, it was a great place--the rooms they vend on Priceline are only suitable for a single traveler (and imagine the consternation it would cause if the bidder isn't), but that works perfectly for me.

This hotel made me feel sophisticated: It was great staying in a beautiful, historical room in a great location. I never get to stay in grand old hotels.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Westin St Francis.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
