Allow me to summarize my review for those uninterested:
It was $270 a night, had a filthy room, a crabby staff, an uncomfortable bed. Don't stay here.
First off, I stayed in "The Grand View" room, which was the best they where offering me at $269/night. My girlfriend and I decided to treat ourselves to a "nice" hotel, and this one had quite a reputation, so we gave it a try. My first impression is when I called the front desk to get directions and I got a rude response. This is not something I would expect of a hotel this expensive.
Keeping in mind the structure is old, the lobby appeared fairly nice. Once I entered the hallway, I suddenly thought I was at Motel 6. Still not convinced I had wasted my money, upon entering my room, I was certain.
The bed was small, it had four pillows, and was very uncomfortable. The condition of the room was poor, it had peeling wallpaper, stains on the carpet, and air conditioning did not work very well. To top it off, the entertainment system is worse than what you would find in some cheap motels. The desk phone did not work. The room was fairly small and unimpressive with almost no decor. The alarm clock was unplugged, and I had to track an outlet down, and plug it and/set it myself.
The view was as good as it is going to get in that area. This was the only positive about my stay, although the windows where very clouded so it was not as good as it could be.
The bathroom had extremely noisy plumbing, the toilet made weird shrieking noises for long periods of time. The bathtub was of less quality than you find in an average apartment. The floors and surroundings of the bath featured dirty, not so well crafted marble.
In the morning I ordered room service, the food was extremely expensive and of low quality. Worst of all, the room service operator was rude, which seems to be the case with all hotel staff. I wanted to make sure the order was correctly taken, and the operator made it very clear she did not want to read the order back.
To give some idea about how uncomfortable I was, I had been up for over 30 hours once I checked in. I could only seem to sleep for 6 hours. They make such a big deal about their "heavenly" *everything* that it seems silly that not only is their bed normal, but much worse than I have ever owned, it was a typical motel bed or worse.
Now at this point I just want to leave, so I checked out. When you check out they do not ask "How was your stay?". This is understandable, and lucky for them they did not.
At this point I feel ripped off. To make matters worse, when I go to get my car, I find out there is another $50 fee for parking. Parking should be free for hotel guests, and this is just a silly amount of money.
Should I be embarrassed to mention the porn is of low quality too?
I stayed at the Radison Miyoko, in Japantown. This hotel room cost me $85, and it was very nice. The bed was ten times better, the TV was better, the room was cleaner and nicer, and bigger. There was a view of their courtyard which is very interesting. I would recommend that hotel.
