The Westside YMCA is in a great location (steps away from Central Park, near Columbus Circle). The rooms are similar to a private room in a youth hostel - small but clean. If you are ok with paying a little more - get a room with the "semi-priv

Okay
The Westside YMCA ia an affordable sleeping room in a great location. The use of their fine fitness center being included with the lodging is a very nice bonus. The rooms are spartan like a college dorm before you move in. But the rooms are...

The staff was friendly and helpful over my three day stay. The location is fantastic. The room was very tiny and sparse, but clean. The bed had no box spring, the TV no remote, the miniature AC barely worked. The room was very clean; however, the shared bathrooms were clean upon arrival and filthy by 5:00 pm. every day. Bring your own soap and flip flops, and tissues.
But what do you want for $100 a night in Manhattan? I would definitely stay again, but would not want the "bathrooms for everyone" deal. Lots of interesting people from all nationalities and backgrounds stay at the Y. Give it a try if you are a single traveler.

The West Side YMCA, was a decent hotel to stay in, and an especially good value. However, you should take note that the rooms are very small (mine had a bunk bed, one window with blinds, a small tv with cable and a desk with accompanying chair). Hotel staff is overall pretty friendly, and you also have access to all of the workout equipment/pool. My only one major gripe with the hotel was the fact that there were no showers in the tiny rooms, but rather several (maybe 10) shower rooms on the floor. These are clean for the most part, but I would bring a pair of rubber flip-flops to wear in the shower just in case. Overall, for $30-$40 a night, the cost simply can't be beat for a traveler wanting to see the city that never sleeps on a budget.

My room was very small with only a window, mirror on the wall, drawers and a metal (on wheels!) bunk bed. As I was only there for three nights and planned to sight see my the whole day I did not mind my room. It was cheap and all I wanted was for a place to leave my luggage and sleep at night. Therefore I was a happy customer.
The receptionist were freindly and even when I lost my keys everyday, they were happy to replace them and escorte me to my room.
The place was also located in a safe lively part of New York so I recommend it for those 'on the go'!
