I actually spent my day there and I had a party for friends. I rented out two cabanas at the beach bar. I really enjoyed all the staff accommodations, but our waiter was really slow which was not ok for the premium price I paid for the cabanas. She was working for other areas, but having an exclusive section was supposed to mean we got an own exclusive server. Other than that, it was great.

This hotel made me feel welcome: Mostly everyone knew my name. They even greeted me happy birthday when I requested that toothpaste be delivered to my room. It was nice.

I am very likely to return to the W San Diego.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

I was very much looking forward to staying there for work as I had heard such great things about the W. Also, it was $320 a night, which gave me high expectations.

At first glance, it definitely lives up to the hype. A cool, modern scene when you walk in, great looking rooms, a posh restaurant downstairs. But then you start noticing other things. You're paying a lot per room, but absolutely nothing is included in that. They charge you for Internet access, water, snacks, even a first-aid kit. I don't expect everything to be given away, but to me when you're at a posh hotel, they should provide some things free of charge. It's just not classy to nickel and dime you for everything.

I also found the service atrocious. My Internet connection wasn't working with their system and someone on the phone just kept telling me, "Go to Turbonet, go to Turbonet" even though that wasn't useful and didn't work. The hair dryers in our rooms were horrible, literally the lowest end, smallest hair dryer you could imagine.

What really killed me though was going to the restaurant, rice for breakfast. It was a lovely place and the service was fantastic. But my bill for a bowl of oatmeal, a beautiful plate of fruit and an orange juice was $30. That's really over the top, and unnecessary.

It was great for downtown. It's very similar to all W's. It was chic and modern. The outdoor gym is also unique and unusual

This hotel made me feel welcome: They always recognized me when I was walking in. Everyone always seemed to have a smile on their face.

I am very likely to return to the W San Diego.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

I love the decor and friendliness of staff. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay pleasant and they don't come across as patronizing. They have comfortable beds and pillows. I love the Bliss toiletries.

This hotel made me feel excited: It had a great atmosphere, great food, and music.

The hotel has a good location, the staff is helpful, the rooms are nice and the beds are amazing! If you are not into the party scene, my advice is to avoid staying on the lower floors during the weekend.

THE ultimate California hotel experience. The W San Diego is one of my favorite Starwood properties. Hip from the get-go, the lobby blares music while the fashionable masses crowd around the "living room" and lobby bar. The rooms are decorated in ocean hues, lots of blues and whites, with terrific window benches perfect for curling up with a book. I enjoyed the lap desk stacked with magazines ready for use in each room. Our guest room came stocked with Bliss amenities, a fully loaded minibar and stacks upon stacks of throw pillows. The showers are unique - a not-fully-closed glass door that somehow manages not to spill on the floor. Bathtubs would be welcome, particularly given all of the foot-tiring shopping of Horton Plaza just five blocks away, but they aren't necessary. The coolest part of the hotel is Beach, a bar located on a roof patio of the hotel, complete with heated sand floors, fire pits and private cabanas, with other benches and ottomans scattered throughout the sand. The cabanas are very romantic, while the setup of benches, couches and ottomans makes for a fun social experience. We sat for hours, both in the cabanas and on the outside couches, and we had a blast. The scene is mixed - hip San Diegans mixed with travelers from all over looking for a great time. Every time I stay in this hotel, I'm impressed by the W's service and standards. I also tend to sleep very well in these hotels, although it's not too much of a surprise given that the entire Starwood line is known for "Sweet Sleeper" type beds. Room service and internet access fees are pricy, and valet charges are steep. Their main restaurant, Rice, is also a bit pricy but completely worth it - their specials are some of the more creative ones I've seen. The hotel is located a mere 2 miles from the airport, but a lot of one-way streets in the area make getting to the valet a challenge. Be prepared for a quick U-turn off B Street. If you're looking for a true California experience, this hotel will do it. I highly recommend it!

I am very likely to return to the W San Diego.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

The hotel is located about 10 minutes walk from Gaslamp Quarters and Little Italy so finding food is no really a problem. The front desk staff are friendly and generally make an effort to get to know the guest. The decor in the lobby feels like a nightclub (and is converted to a nightclub on certain nights). I've stayed on low floors and high floors and noise is not a problem. The gym and pool are small. Room decor is trendy and modern (in keeping with the W theme), which flat screen TV that have AV inputs.

I am very likely to return to the W San Diego.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
