I was very much looking forward to staying there for work as I had heard such great things about the W. Also, it was $320 a night, which gave me high expectations.
At first glance, it definitely lives up to the hype. A cool, modern scene when you walk in, great looking rooms, a posh restaurant downstairs. But then you start noticing other things. You're paying a lot per room, but absolutely nothing is included in that. They charge you for Internet access, water, snacks, even a first-aid kit. I don't expect everything to be given away, but to me when you're at a posh hotel, they should provide some things free of charge. It's just not classy to nickel and dime you for everything.
I also found the service atrocious. My Internet connection wasn't working with their system and someone on the phone just kept telling me, "Go to Turbonet, go to Turbonet" even though that wasn't useful and didn't work. The hair dryers in our rooms were horrible, literally the lowest end, smallest hair dryer you could imagine.
What really killed me though was going to the restaurant, rice for breakfast. It was a lovely place and the service was fantastic. But my bill for a bowl of oatmeal, a beautiful plate of fruit and an orange juice was $30. That's really over the top, and unnecessary.
