member icon W Hotel in NY = Really bad service and l

39 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

I stay at the W Hotel in NY and needed to share the worst hotel experience over and over again. It started in April 2008 and the W staff disappointed consistently over and over again, in person, by phone and by email. I wouldn't waste my time on writing this review if it were not for a shirt that I particularly cared about and the W lost without ever trying to make up for it apologizing or anything. So, look for reviews all over the Web and in Google's top 10 results for the query "W Hotel in NY" in a few days.

I stayed at the W hotel last week from 4/9 to 4/12 and the cleaning staff lost one of my shirt. I reported it at the front desk and I was told I would be called a couple days after. Some security person took notes of my deposition and promise me that not only the W would try to find it but that I would be called on Monday 4/14. I travel all the time and have stayed at W hotels all over the country. Since then, I called repeatedly to be asked to leave voice mail messages to no avail. I emailed about 5 times. I even stopped by the hotel today to talk to someone face to face.

Beside losing one of my favorite shirt and not following through, the "non-smoking" Suite smelled like tobacco, the floor was dirty, the service was less than acceptable, there was food outside the suite seating there for at least 18 hours that smelled bad. The bathroom was disgusting, and the Internet access asked that we pay every single time we logged in every day. The shower cap was broken, so was the bathtub little cover. Needless to say, I could not take a bath and had to lay towels down on the floor to walk from the bed to the bathroom … What a shame.

35 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for business

The hotel is very stylish, however that seems to translate into tiny, dark rooms. My room had a queen bed and two windows. There was about 12 inches of space between the foot of the mattress and the opposite wall. All lighting was indirect, which made it very very dark.

Pros: Flat screen TV, DVD player, Ipod charging station, comfy bedding, stylish decor.

Cons: Only analog reception on TV, incredibly small room and tiny bathroom, pathetically dark lighting - even in bathroom, and I foolishly left my DVD collection at home, so I wasn't able to use the DVD player.

Absolutely disappointing - we were booked into a too-small room that would have created a fire hazard had the rollaway been set up - the only space for it would have blocked the door and the bathroom. We got upgraded after complaining (albeit they were not gracious about it) and our new room was bigger, but the bathroom was dirty and the shower floor was a scary sight. When we left we had valet'ed our car; it came back foul-smelling and with the radio station changed, and the volume turned way up. I did take the time to write all this to the General Manager, and received a canned "oh, sorry" in return - no phone call, no discussion - so basically if you have complaints, or you take the time to let them know how they can improve their service, don't bother - it won't get you anywhere. This hotel is way more concerned about being a place to be seen than providing quality service. The public spaces are lovely, so if you don't mind horrible facilities and service, this is the place for you.

Terrible hotel! The worst I've ever stayed with Starwood for many many years.

Old, small and dirty suite, last century TV, yellow lamps, no lights in closet, broken door between rooms, 19th century noisy air conditioning.

Stay away! Don't even think about it!!!

The W New York hotel is ideally situated and comfortable in all facets. Tourists can do no better than staying in the W hotel when visiting New York.

This hotel made me feel null: They treated me and my spouse as special guests from the moment we arrived. We were made to feel that our business was valued, that our stay was important to each staff member.

I am very likely to return to the W New York.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
