Horrible
female with an economy budget, traveling for leisure

Had driven all day and wanted to stay close to the bay and shopping area. From outside it looked maintained and quaint. I booked the room and thought it was odd she was writing down all my information from my driver's license. We had stayed at se

Horrible
35 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

My friend and I were in Morro Bay in the beginning of May. What drew us to the motel was a sign in the window advertising ‘Low Rates’. In addition, I have been an Auto Club Plus member for over 25 years and respect the recommendation of the AAA Club. The reason for writing today is to warn all of you. Steer clear of this joint! I have never been spoken to so rudely or blatantly lied to by a motel/hotel representative.

A woman showed me a room and quoted me $89 for the evening. She informed me “to be quiet and to not advertise the price because the other clients were paying over $120 per night.” I asked her if I could stay two nights, but because there was an antique car show in town, she said “she had to raise the price for the second night”. Nevertheless, she insisted that she would keep it lower than the traditional weekend rate.

She told me “to hurry up and make the decision”. I told her that I needed to discuss the transaction with my friend first before making a commitment. I literally was gone less than five minutes before returning to accept her offer. Upon entering the lobby, I encountered another person. The woman I had spoken with only minutes before had miraculously disappeared. I was informed “the original woman had left for the day”. I explained that I had 'just' spoken with her and informed the young girl of what I had been quoted in terms of price. The younger girl told me “that she knew nothing about it and would not honor the rate”. I obviously was quite upset.

I asked the girl to go into the office and to try to locate the original woman. I was tired from the long drive and eager to cement the transaction. After waiting in the lobby approximately fifteen minutes, the girl reappeared and told me that she had contacted the original woman. The story changed. Rather than having gone for the evening, she now had gone to the store and would be back to speak with me in half an hour! I told the girl that it was very poor business and disrespectful to ask for me to wait half an hour for her return. I had hoped that the original woman would have shared with the girl what she had promised me and I could check into the room that I had been shown.

The girl kept insisting that the original woman never mentioned the prices that were offered to me. I was far from quiet and made it known that I was quite displeased. Other potential customers entered the lobby, overheard the conversation, commiserated with me, shook their heads and walked out. It is obvious that others had felt that I was very poorly treated. Ironically, the original woman appeared at the door with no groceries in hand. She was rude, sullen, disrespectful and denied having offered me the lower prices. I was astonished! I politely reminded her as to the quotes that she had presented to me. Her entire attitude had changed and she told me to leave the premises. I was fuming and promised myself that I would contact the AAA Club upon my return home, file a complaint and warn others as to my most unfortunate experience.

I returned to the car to share the upsetting encounter with my friend. Within minutes, the sign that advertised “Lower Rates” disappeared from the front window.

I have been most fortunate to travel extensively throughout the USA and overseas. In all of my years, I have never met such an abusive individual who is supposed to be catering to the needs of the public and conducting business under the guidelines of the AAA Club. Do yourselves a favor and avoid this dump. The prices may be tempting, especially for Morro Bay, but the service is horrendous!
