In the past, Vacation Village dollar for dollar was quite reasonable and a pleasant , clean (well worn and dated) ,friendly atmosphere to boot. Since change of ownership the rates have gone so high and along with the steep rates ones expectations increase hence: everything appears to be cold shabby and way overpriced. Friendly warm down to earth feeling is gone. The hotel does have an exellent location. There will need to be some changes before I would return.

Vacation Village used to be a great annual get away for my family for at least 20 years. The decor was not exactly what I'd call 5 star, but it was a quaint little hotel on the beach and very family friendly. Since ownership has changed the rates are ridiculous and gone are the days of free parking for guests. It has now out-priced many of its long time returning customers, and new customers won't pay those kind of prices for a hotel that could use some updating.

In the past I can say the rooms were clean, the staff were very friendly and the convenience of having everything so close that we could forget about the car was a major draw. But at those rates I'd rather stay somewhere worth the extra cash.

Another gripe are the Spa packages. Spa services are offered, but there is no mention of the spa being down the street... if you are going to offer spa services at a hotel they are typically AT the hotel.

Overall I would love to recommend this hotel, its been a second home for years, but rates they are charging are ridiculous for the room quality as well as the services supposedly offered.

The hotel had great location and pool. They now charge something like fourteen dollars a day to park in the parking garages, which we thought was completely ridiculous, because it was very difficult to find additional parking nearby. The rates have gone up quite a bit since last year, as well.

The location was great, our room looked out over the beach to the west, the room was clean and the price was excellent. We stayed one night on a Sunday after driving up from San Diego.

The front desk people were cheerful, it is very handy that the have beach chairs, umbrella's, towels, & beach toys for the kids so that you don't have to pack all of that stuff along & you can still enjoy yourself. It was also nice that the pool is heated and open late so that after the sun goes down & you come in from the beach you can relax in the heated pool. We also really enjoyed the restaurant that's connected to the hotel that is also on the ocean - what wonderful food & atmosphere. We didn't want to leave and we will most definitely be back!
