Spent a lot of time researching for a place to stay for a weekend getaway. Got a "cottage" room assuming it would look like the one on their website (nice couch in front of fireplace, etc.). Got a room that was pretty much like any other hotel room...

The inn is located close to the downtown area. The onsite restaurant, Louie's, is a little pricey but the food is excellent. The staff is friendly and they offer a nice continental breakfast and afternoon wine and appetizers. The only downside is...
I arrived in town quite late on June 29th and checked into the Upham around 11 pm. When I arrived in the room it was approximately ninety degrees inside. Considering a shower and cool off I discovered that I did not have any towels in the bathroom....

We've been to Santa Barbara twice, and both times we stayed at the Upham Hotel. The hotel is very old, and it is furnished with antiques. This makes for a much different experience than staying in your average motel.
Great setting for a romantic getaway weekend. Nice rooms with charming decor. Close walk to shops and restaurants. Cozy living area for wine and tea to relax and meet other guests.
