Union Hotel and Victorian Mansion Hotel - Page 1

I would stay at "1880 Union Hotel" again without hesitation. Good points: affordable wine country rates; 110% staff effort to make our stay enjoyable; precious example of period California architecture; private tours of secret rooms behind hidden doors; located in quiet town FAR from bustling Solvang, commercial Santa Ynez, and expensive Los Olivos; interior restoration 100% complete, exterior grounds and landscaping restoration 50% complete; DELICIOUS dinner steak grilled on outdoor BBQ. Challenging points: private bath included bath tub but shower was down hall; hearty breakfast served at 9 a.m. (accommodating hung-over guests but not early risers). Stepping into this hotel is like stepping back in time. Restoration includes decorating with newly-printed period wallpaper and furnishing bedrooms with newly-build period pieces. Most of hotel and restaurant staff are non-paid volunteers working for fun and tips in this museum-like gem. Management changed in 2007, therefore Santa Ynez Valley locals may not be aware of improvements made in the past year.

**HIDDEN: Reviewer never stayed at the hotel**

I have never actually been here...why? Because they have the most TERRIBLE customer service ever. They NEVER answer their phones, it goes directly to voicemail and then they NEVER call you back. Also their website has a link to request availability, however they NEVER email you back either. I wonder how anyone actually stays at this hotel when no one bothers to return phone calls or emails...VERY poor customer service. From this, I wouldn't want to stay here..imagine how they treat their guests? I guess their guests are ignored as well.....very bad business tactics guys.
