Thank God this was on the state's dime. I had a room in the Truman for training from the state agency I work for, and as a taxpayer, am concerned that I paid for this sort of service. My non-smoking room was directly above a smoking room, so guess where the smoke went. Also, there was a section of carpet (8 inch by 12 inch or so) that had been removed and replaced with an entirely different color of carpet (green vs. blue). My neighbor was a co-worker, who, in having a regular volume conversation with another co-worker, could be heard verbatim throuh the extremely flimsy walls. The heater in my room blew whether or not you turned the heat on, and it continued blowing until the room was 80 degrees, at which point I had to open my exterior door to cool my room off. When I asked if I could change rooms, I was told by the desk clerk that they "can't do that". Fortunately, my co-worker was extra-courteous, not even using his television to accomodate me when the hotel wouldn't. Also, if your idea of a gourmet breakfast is "french toast sticks", fake eggs, and bacon, you might love the complimentary breakfast. Just don't expect any fruit. And juice costs extra. Just terrible. This is easily the worst hotel I have ever been in.

Not Clean, but the worst part was no heat in 35 degree weather. Called the front desk on the hour for 5 hours to try to resolve the heat issue. At 9pm I checked out and moved next door to the Motel 6. It was a step up.
Staff inattentive and have attitude problems.
Would not recommend this "hotel". Would rather sleep in my car.

I went to this hotel with my husband who frequents this hotel for business. He asked for a nicer room because our two small children and I were coming too. The poolside room we had was gross. There was a 1-2" gap at the bottom of the door that went out to the pool. The pool was dirty so our daughter couldn't swim and when I laid her down for a nap a spider walked across her pillow. My husband says he's had spiders in his other rooms as well. We asked for a crib for our 2 month old and what they brought looked like it had been chewed on. Once we got to sleep I kept feeling something crawling on me only to find 3 or 4 bugs in my bed. Needless to say I packed up the kids early the next morning and headed home. I would not recommend anyone to this hotel.

This hotel has the worst heating and A/C system of any place I have ever stayed. It was 80 degrees in my room and the staff refused to fix the problem.

The motel was clean and the service was as expected. The only glitch in the whole experience was making the reservation. I was put on hold for over five minutes the first time I called. The second call was answered quickly and the reservations were made.
I am somewhat likely
to return to the Truman Hotel and Conference Center.
I might recommend it to friends.

Overall, the hotel will keep rain off your head. We stayed two nights. As the title states, this is an old facility, it was built in the 60's. As is often the case, it's better not to look too close. I bumped my glasses off the back of the nightstand, and when I moved it to retrieve them it seemed as if the thing had been cleaned under for five years, and if it means anything, I washed my glasses with shampoo & the hottest water I could get (I'll say the room has good hot water).
The building, being an older structure, has walls that are thin, allowing you to hear TV's, conversations, etc. room-to-room. Slamming doors shake the whole building at all hours, and I mean all hours. Some big truck with a back-up beeper left at 6 a.m. and woke us up (parking is right against the building). I think it's a universal rule that housekeepers have to bang vacuum cleaners off walls, in addition to apparently being unaware that people are sleeping. But that's common everywhere.
Our stay was in October 2006 and we stayed here because other hotels were all booked up due to something in town. If you stay here, sure, you'll live, but if you want value for your $70, I don't think this is it. I feel this is a "$37.95" hotel at best, based upon my stay.
