22 year old with a economy budget, traveling for leisure
My boyfriend and I just got back from a 3 day stay the the Tropicana in Atlantic City. We stayed in the West tower. Overall our experience was OK, could use a few improvements. The smell of cigarette some was EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE. The long 20 minute wait for the 2 out of 4 elevators (2 were broke) that were too full of people or would not run most the the time was ridiculous. (at one point we waited almost a 1/2 hour because the elevators would not stop on our floor or when it did stop it was full of people, so me, my boyfriend and cousin walked down 22 flights of stairs, 1/2 way down the stairs reminded me of a back alley stairway that looked like homeless people slept in). While waiting for the elevators a lot of rude foreign people would just push their way through and get on the elevators first not caring who was waiting there first (although their rudeness is not the Tropicana's fault). The room was OK. My mother worked in a small motel in our town that was cleaner. The floor could have been swept a little better. There was a few strands of long hair on the bathroom floor, the sink was not wiped off well enough. We got shampoo the 2nd night we stayed (there was not any in there the first night). The toilet clogged for no reason when it was only urinated in once though when we called front desk to fix it the maintence responded quickly. The walk to the hotel room was a wasted 15 mins. We did not like how you had to walk through the casino to get everywhere (the room, boardwalk, restaurants, other towers.) We called the front desk to asked to be connected to the Recreational Area (to get information about the pool), the girl who answered was rude/short worded and stated she did not know what RECREATIONAL meant and acted like we were stupid for using that word. The hallways of the West tower were dirty, glasses, trash on the floors. Not to mention we were told our luggage would be set inside our room door and when we walked in it was clearly thrown in our door (very unprofessional)
Good points were the rest of the staff was very polite, the dining and drink places we visited (fiesta buffet, fire water, create a cone) were delicious, loved all the shops in the hotel, the view from our room was awesome, beds were comfy, our floor was for the most part quiet and peaceful, the inclusion of a mini frig was convenient, the room was very roomy.
all in all our trip was good despite the weather, we would stay in the Tropicana again but would like to try other hotels just to see the different experience. =)
49 year old with a moderate budget, traveling for business
We generally go to the Trop twice a year in Feb to celebrate our birthdays. This time my husband had to work the boat show, so we stayed 3 nghts comped here, then went to Trump Marina for 3 more nights (also comped). I found the rooms and casino to be much better. I love the Quarter for a change of pace. The rooms at the Trop have always been clean and we usually arrive a little after noon and have never had to wait for a room. A little kindness with the check in staff goes a long way. I generally get the same lady to check us in for the last few years. Parking is right on the premises and not far from casino, so not sure what the other reviewers were speaking to (but it is a big casino). I guess they just had a bad day. Food has always been good at the finer restaurants and we "LOVE" The Palm Restaurant for a special birthday dinner. P F Changs is great too! Corky's, Hooters, A Dam Good Sports Bar are average as expected. Firewaters is great for a martini. See the Promotions Booth for a coupon book to get some discounts. We always get a free room with our Diamond Club card comps, so you won't find us complaining. We will be back for a few days in March.

While the room was very spacious with a comfortable bed and nice sunset view, the location to the gym (extra fee for use) and pool (nothing fancy) was inconvienent. The staff was not helpful and was curt-no explanation of the diamond club (tracks...

Okay
The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly, but the restaurant options were limited - one had two choices of either eating at an overpriced restaurant or eating at a below average restaurant. There was nothing like a good value restaurant which...
My husband and I, both in our mid twenties, really enjoyed our last stay at the Trop. We were given a South Tower room which was beautiful, clean, and comfy. We ate dinner at PF Changs (MAKE A RESERVATION) which was good, but not fantastic. Then...
This hotel was very old. I walked into the room and it literally seemed like a flash back to the 60's-70's. The decor and bedding needs to be updated. The bed matress was hard as a rock. For $109/night i was expecting a much softer matress....
