Underwhelmed is the first word that comes to mind as you walk through the hotel and casino areas. After the zombie at the desk checked me in my wife and I began the long journey with our bags to the North Tower which meant taking an escalator and a long walk through an area of the casino filled with heavy traffic. We had to carry our bags and laptop computer despite me being handicapped with braces on both of my legs and my walking with a cane because no one was available to help us. The long trek through the crowd introduced us to the class of people that are patrons of this dirty, smoky hotel and casino. The smell of booze on all the drunks was surprisingly strong considering the thick smoke that fills the air of all parts of this hotel and casino, even in the so-called non-smoking sections. (My arm was burnt by a woman walking past me in a non-smoking section of the casino). After fighting our way through the mass of people we stood for 20 minutes in a crowd of people waiting for an elevator. The rudeness of people amazes me when a middle-aged couple struggling with their luggage (that they shouldnt have to be carrying) and a cane are pushed, shoved and boxed-out of getting on the infrequently available elevators. When we finally arrived at our non-smoking room and walked in the first thing that hit me was the strong smell of smoke. I sat on the side of the bed and called the front desk and was told by someone very annoyed with my call that it is definitely a non-smoking room. I told him that there are two cigarette burns on the table the phone is on and I was told this could not be so and that I was mistaken. The digital photo I took shows them to be without a doubt cigarette burns, the first of a series of photos I will be presenting to the President of Tropicana. I have photos of how filthy the room was, from you guess it a cigarette burn on the carpet, dirt and sand and dust on all the furniture, rust in the bathroom, rust around the windows, windows so dirty you could not see clearly through them, peeling wallpaper, the coffee table was made of some cheap metal and besides the dust, dirt and sand it also had many rust spots all over it. This place is like a cheap motel in a bad part of town. Not convinced yet? How about semen stains and pubic hair on top of the comforter covering the bed! The couple in the room before us obviously couldnt wait to get under the covers so they left their hair fluids on the comforter and so did the maids! This is getting to be a long story so I will skip most of the remaining details. The hotel staffs response was annoyance and ours was disgust. I became such and unpleasant situation we checked out but not before I made sure I got the President of Tropicanas name and address and phone number. He will hear the long version of my experience and view my photos. The Tropicana should be sold to someone who will remodel it and maintain it as a classy place it now only pretends to be.

Mediocre
This whole experience was a nightmare!! They weren't prepared for the amount of people checking-in (which took forever and was poorly run!) To make matters worse, this so-called high-end hotel smelled of dirty feet and sweat throughout- it was worse ...

I think once they finish remodeling the Tropicana it will be much better then what it was. The elevators took 20 mins to get to and from the rooms. Parts of the casino were cold and other parts too warm, due to the air conditioning. They need to upgrade their waitress service on the casino floor, dont need dixie cups and serve the drinks you ask for not just bottom shelf liquors and beers.

Well, I came to Atlantic City to see what all the commotion was about and decided to stay at the Tropicana, since Id heard so many good things about it. Wow, what a mistake that was, the rooms are standard, very basic and its loud I couldnt get a good night sleep. Theres always a herd of people coming through the hallways, screaming, talking, and carrying on. Since the casino is open 24/7 a bunch of loud drunks screaming by your front door at all hours of the morning. Elevator was so slow I had to beg maintenance to use the service elevator...then theres the maid problem they dont listen. Its true, they walk into your room with out even knocking even after I put a do not disturb sign on the door lock. Maid service took the sign out of the lock and ran their key through it anyway and opened my door. I was so upset, how dare them. The food, what a joke, we went to the Cuban restaurant they have in the Tropicana. I can tell you one thing, that was not Cuban food. I should know Im Cuban. Whos back there cooking, some German guy? I tasted like something you eat at Disney World, please what an insult to my peoples food. Oh and out on the boardwalk be careful of who ask to take you for a rickshaw drive, our driver says he was from Turkey and then tried charging us $25 dollars for a block and a half ride...the nerve. Then I noticed the prices posted on the rickshaw which actually came to $6, believe it, he tried to rip us off...all and all Ill never be back.

My husband and I have had a great time with mini vacations in the past 6 months, we are scheduled to go again this weekend, can't wait. From the check-in process thru check-out we have no complaints. Only one time were we a little disappointed with our room, but have since discovered those rooms have been redone. The restaurants are great, and the entertainment is wonderful. The only complaint I have is not be lucky on the slots.
