58 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

This is an out of the way natural resort located on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific. The staff was super courteous and fun to be around. The breakfasts were delicious and the optional dinner choices offered possibilities we had not expected. Going to the lodge for toilet or shower facilities was not an inconvenience. The sink and mirror in our "yurt" deluxe tent covered most of the water and washing needs we had. The yurts were spotless, homey and beautifully designed. A hot tub and outside pool are part of the package. No TV here just games, reading and good conversation. Wine and beer available at the "store" There is no adequate description of the sunrise and sunsets that accompany each day spent there. I will go back gratefully for another round as soon as possible.

member icon The front desk staff was snobby, and rude

Loved the view, but everything else was terrible. The front desk staff was snobby, and rude. They made no attempt to rectify the huge noise problem coming from the people in the yurt next to ours. Did not sleep, and had a horrible time. Man at front desk made a rude comment that we had not done our research. Nowhere in my research did it talk about rude staff, and noisy neighbors. Seriously, the accommodations are no better than camping, and at 150.00 a night, it was ridiculous. Find a nice campground instead, you will have more privacy and spend less money, and probably have a better time. Bathrooms were also very dirty.

member icon Mongolian-style yurts on an ocean bluff

Thirty miles south of Big Sur in the middle of nowhere, Treebones Resort has Mongolian-style yurts on a bluff high above the ocean.

If you once loved to camp, but now hate to wake up with an aching back and dirt under your nails, you’ll be totally into this place. Each yurt has a queen-size bed and cozy quilt, and there’s electricity and lights so you won’t have to put down your vacation romance novel when the sun sets.

Cook outside on your own grill, or head to the main lodge and meet other guests over a barbecue dinner.
