Not the Ritz, but not bad for the price – Posted Aug 19, 2008

39 year old male with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

We went here in July. Spearfish seems to be booked solid during summer weekends, but we were able to get a room at the Travelodge and it was much cheaper than some other brand-name hotels in town.

The pool was closed for renovations. They had another pool that hotel guests could use, but it was not near the property. The guy staying next to us took his family there, and raved about it. If you want a pool that is right on the property, you will be disappointed, but we weren't here for the pool.

The room we got was a clean quiet room. The hotel is tucked away in a residential neighborhood near downtown, so everything was within walking distance.

Parking was no problem. We could park in front of our room and unload the car easily.

Breakfast was pretty standard for this level of hotel. They had hot waffles, and the waffle mix was fresh, not stale like the other poster mentioned. My kids loved making waffles for breakfast, but again, it was not the Ritz. But I wasn't paying Ritz prices either.

The front desk staff were very friendly and though busy, had time to give us directions and suggestions. My wife appreciated the advice they provided and the nearby restaurants were really great.

Housekeeping was fine for our room. We had stayed at a Days Inn in another town the night before and the Travelodge was much cleaner.

Towels and sheets were okay. Overall, the room was above average for what we paid to stay.

HORRIBLE!!! STAY AWAY! – Posted Aug 13, 2008

This hotle was horrible! We booked it during a very busy time of year (motorcycle rally) & were terribly disappointed! The room was unsanitary, as we asked several times for it to be recleaned. It was hot, the A/C didn't cool well, so we asked for a fan & were denied. The hot water in the shower ran out after the 1st person. We requested non-smoking & were given smoking & told that was all that was available. However, in talking with new neighbors on our 3rd out of 5 nights, we discovered that there was a room open, that they had stopped in w/out a reservation & were only charged $169 to our $270! When management was asked about a new room & the price, he stated it was "supply & demand" and that we could try our luck next year without a reservation! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Travelodge headquarters still will not return our calls or emails!!

Uncomfortable beds, hot rooms. The beds – Posted Jul 27, 2008

Mediocre

Uncomfortable beds, hot rooms. The beds were uncomfortable. When we walked in, the rooms were incredibly hot. The AC units should have been turned on before we got there. It was confusing to get to the hotel from the highway.

Excellent

Location was easy to find.Had a musty smell when we first arrived, but we aired the room and it went away. I'd recommend this hotel if your looking for a stop along your travels. It's small, but met my needs and the staff was very friendly.

Friendly employees, very quiet location.Pool was in a separate building, water too warm. This was an older hotel that had rooms both in the main building (outside corridors) and then in a strip next to it. The kids loved the place, we had a large...
