For a budget hotel (and around S.F. that means $100/night), I expect a clean small room, probably tacky in decor with cheap foam pillows and a polyester bed spread. The Travelodge in Mill Valley was all that, and unfortunately, more.
I'll cut to the chase: there was sand in our sheets when we climbed in for the night and in the bathroom there was black mold spores spotting the highest corners of the room and on the bathroom window sill.
The place just felt run down and uncared for beyond the very basics - for example, the wall paper was peeling in the bathroom along the seams.
Cough up $20-$30 more and stay at the Holiday Inn Express up the road. I wish I had!
