This is in answer to the bicyclist's who stayed March 2007 and waited four hours before she checked the quality of the room she rented. At which time she wanted her money returned because it wasn't cleaned to her liking. $65 is about the cheapest rate you can get now, unless you have a coupon or a hotel has a super duper promotion going on.
The hotel is close to the 210 & 605 Freeways, allowing one to go to the Mountains, Deserts or the Ocean within an hour. (As long as there is no commuting traffic.)
They have a very nice large lobby where they serve breakfast every morning: Coffee, cereal, milk, orange juice, pastry and toast. There are tables and chairs. TV is on with the news; magazines and newspapers are available. There is a seating arrangement with coffee table. They have a microwave for your use in the lobby with a water cooler and a restroom that you can use so you don't have to go back to your room.
The hotel has three floors with an elevator. Upon your request you will receive coins for the ice machine. I believe a beverage machine is available. I always bring my own because there are refrigerators in each room. If you rent by the week they will provide a microwave in your room.
There is a fairly large outdoor pool. I don't know if the Jacuzzi is working now. It was cold the last few times I have stayed.
On Saturday from 10am to 2pm there is a Bar-b-q available with all kinds of great food that you can purchase. One does not have to stay at the hotel to take advantage of this food court.
Duarte Inn Travelodge is in the 'hotel cheep rates' ads you get at Denny's and Burger King. You can stay one night, 2 adults for $43+ with the coupon. At the price of hotels this is pretty good. The regular price is, I believe, $65. Your ID must show that you live out of the area.
The people who run the hotel have been there for years. They are very nice.
It is as safe as any other hotel in any city. You take your valuables with you when you leave for dinner or whatever and at night you keep them in your room.
It is an older hotel, like many of the hotels on Route 66. Unless you have millions of dollars there's not much you can do other then paint and put in new carpet, which they do do.
It is perfectly safe to walk across the street to Ralph's or go to McDonald's, or Carl's, Jr., Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, all within one-half block from the hotel. The hospital is just north on Buena Vista. Go another two blocks north and you have Bradbury Estates which is a guarded community that has $2+ million dollar homes. I'm sure when these people go to the Market or fast food restaurants, they are within a few feet of you (the person who wrote the first review). Standing next to all the rest of us who don't always like to cook. Or need to shop for grocery's. Even their children are there. El Pollo Loco is at the entrance to the driveway into the hotel. Do you really think that all the people who go to the fast food places or the market are going to get mugged?
Even the Santa Anita Inn and the Hotel six in Arcadia by the race track have homeless people staying in them. They could be drug addicts with homes or just people who are bad on their luck. They may be homeless or not, especially on the weekends.
Even some of the mid priced hotels, such as the Days Inn or the Oak Tree Inn, have the same people. I bet hotels like double Tree have the same people. Even one's like homestead.
Two or three people, who like more quality, kick in together to get a room.
Life is not always a bowl of cherries for everyone and the lady with the bike had better wake up and see the world that we live in.
Where ever you stay practice safety first. You can get mugged anywhere. Ask the local police or sheriffs.
I know these things because I was homeless for 6 years. I had been evicted from a 2400 sq ft house in Arcadia because the people who were living with me either lost their job or when they retired after 19 years working for Boeing were given very small pensions. I had the money to rent but my credit was bad.
I know for a fact that the people we knew would never have bothered any one. Of course there were some who would have stolen from you if you gave them the chance, but they would not have jumped into you vehicle as you drove by.
I'll get off my bandwagon.
