I recently stayed at the Whalewalk Inn and was rather surprised to find it so very different from how it is advertised on the hotel website. Upon arrival, it became clear that this in was not convinient to any towns, public beaches or other Cape activities. The bike path system was fairly close by...but walking to the beach would be nearly impossible due to the traffic on the roads. I found it funny on the website that they talking about "falling asleep listening to the waves." Well...that refers to the white noise machine with the "sea" option on it. There are lots of these discrepencies on the website. I suggest you read it carefully and call with specific questions. Don't assume you'll be staying in an Inn that resembles the lovely one on the website. There is a reason the main photo of the Inn is at night...because the place is covered in peeling paint accentuated by half-dead landscaping. The "breakfast" part of the B&B experience was also poor. Minimalistic breakfast...no choices and mainly self-serve. Great if you are on a diet though. There was some confusion about our room. The room we ended up in was nice enough in size, however the decorating was very outdated. The furniture and rugs were in desperate need of updating. Our bathroom vanity was covered in peeling varnish. There weren't any curtains in the suite...so if you wanted to sit privately in the living room you had a nice view of the parking lot, and the people coming and going from their cars had a nice view of you, too. We had 2 old fashioned window a/c units. One froze up and stopped working. The other one had a colony of birds living in it and they would start chirping with the sunrise. It was loud in our bedroom at 4am, really. I don't even want to speculate about the cleanliness of breathing bird nests. One last observation is that this is not a caring place. Upon our arrival after a long drive, the owner showed us to our room and explained she didn't know how to turn on the light in the stairway...so we got to haul our own bags up the dark, unfamiliar stairs (without any gesture of help from the owner). We decided this wasn't what we had expected or wanted and checked out early. The owner basically had nothing to say other than she was keeping our money (which I was aware was the policy and made no attempt to argue, but still...a little concern would have been appropriate in a small Inn setting that claims to cater to its clients.) I suspect she re-sold our room right away, because the cleaning people hounded us repeatedly about leaving (even though we'd been charged for the day and did tell them we'd be out early afternoon). In the even that the room is re-sold, the owners are supposed to refund the client, but no such offer was made. If you don't mind a lack of service, privacy, food or cleanliness, this might just be the right Inn for you.
