Mediocre
Front desk manager / was abrupt with us while check in, it appeared she was much too important to do such trivial tasks and kept walking into the back office to do something else while we were left standing, she also smelled like BO, (thats why we...
33 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
We have been to The Wentworth a couple times now and enjoy it greatly. We wish was closer because it takes us 4 hours to get there and half our weekend is spent driving. First of all, do not stay in The Thornycroft! That was the room we reserved one time and we got there it was freaky. It is this old room that has an eerie vibe about it. You have to walk through a room with a toilet to get to the tub. It also has a large window beside the bed that looks out onto the deck that everyone walks on to get to the Dining Hall. It is not private at all! This review is for the newer rooms and does not include that room.
I would gladly refer the Arden or Sunnyside. Those are the rooms that were newly renovated when we were there. We asked to see a few rooms that were empty (when we didn't like The Thornycroft and room 407 was taken) and we were given the keys to a few rooms to take a look at them ourselves. That was very nice to given the opportuntiy. I can tell you which of the rooms I saw and liked and ones that were nice but didn't work for us.
1. Arden 407 is our favorite! It must be booked months in advanced because I guess it is also the favorite of other guests =) It has a King size bed, gas fireplace, large glass shower inside and a giant cedar hot tub outside on the balcony. The open windows have curtains for privacy even though you are outside and it faces the road where there is a stream/waterfall across the street that can be heard from the hot tub. Even though it faces the road, it is a road that is not heavily traveled and you are high enough up to have privacy.
2. Arden 406 is another that we have stayed in. There are a lot of windows and we went in the spring and could leave the windows open at night (since we were on the 2nd floor) and listen to the waterfalls all night. It was so relaxing. It has a King size bed, gas fireplace, large glass shower and huge whirlpool tub that you can practically swim in! It is not like the small ones that places call a 2 person. This one could fit 3-4 and bath salt was provided.
3. Sunnyside 502 was one that we looked at and liked. It has a King size bed, gas fireplace and huge whirlpool tub.
4. Arden 409 had a room that was similar to the others but the outside Cedar Hot Tub was not private enough for us. It was facing another part of the building and you could look out and see other rooms that might be looking back at you at night. Was passed on that room.
The breakfasts in the morning are nice and the dinners are even nicer. We like the fact that they request semi-formal attire to dinner so we get to dress up and have a eloquent dinner. They serve a lot of fancy foods that more people do not regularly eat so you get to try new things. The portions are not huge compared to the price of the bill but you are paying some for the atmosphere. After the first night I learned that even though it might be a 5 course meal, you don't have to order all 5 courses. The meals are included in the price of some rooms but the tips are not. A 5 course meal for 2 people can be over $100 and so the tip amount can get expensive.
We love the fact that there is a DVD player in the room and you can take out movies off a list at the front desk. Some of the titles are older but they are better than some cable shows. You can also bring your own DVDs. There is a stereo system set up in the room so you can also play the radio and listen to it throughout the room. The little things made our stay even better. Just icing on the cake!

Okay
pros: great diningTthe old inn is really showing its age and is in need of major repairs. Pretty draperies could not mask the structural problems in this room. Our room had large areas of water damage on floor & ceiling. The buildings have shifted ...

Excellent
We've just returned from our getaway weekend at the Wentworth. With the exception of our room (in the main hotel - queen standard), it was a wonderful experience.
Rooms in the hotel as basic and bland. They are clean, but sterile. ...
They don't really stand behind their motto.

Horrible
We told the lady at the front desk that something was really wrong with the bed. As soon as my husband and I got into this King bed we rolled to the middle. After the first night we asked for them to resolve this problem, put on a new mattress or...
The greatest feature of this fine establishment was the friendliest staff you could ever encounter--from the few women behind the front desk to the waitstaff-- which I find to be of the utmost importance!
Stayed in 'THORNEYCROFT' honeymoon suite (Jan. 2007). Although the room was drafty because of the old non-insulated windows, we managed to keep warm with passsion and the fireplaces provided in both the bedroom and bathroom. There was no...
This hotel is great. I go there every year and stay at one of the condos but the hotel is great too. When you enter Jackson center it is the biggest building there and the front really does look beautifull. Great location.
We loved this place! It is the winter wonderland one dreams of. The service was unbelievable. By the end of our weekend we knew everyone's name fromt he waiter (whom we loved) to the manager etc. Our room was the last book and easily their...
