It was our first time staying at the Waldorf and we were looking forward to it, given its reputation. We definitely were disappointed. It took nearly an hour to check in--their computers were "slow". Our rooms were old and unimpressive. We...

My 18 day stay at the Waldorf Astoria was the worst hotel stay in my life. The lobby is gorgeous, but everything begins and ends there. The hotel personnel are rude and curt. Everything at the hotel is over-priced and the room was filthy. When we arrived I had to ask to have the dirty carpet cleaned. It smelled and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in ten years. From there the stay just went downhill. There was a leak in the ceiling over our toilet and a 3 foot hole in the ceiling. I asked repeatedly to have the hole repaired only to be lied to by hotel personnel. My 8 year old daughter and I were locked out of our hotel room by the hotel management. It was a frightening and very upsetting experience for both myself and my little girl. I have stayed at many 5 star hotels in the past and this hotel should be rated as a 1 star hotel. The 1 star they earn from me is the elegance of their lobby. After that expect your stay to go downhill.

It has always been a dream of mine to visit the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. From the time we arrived at the hotel until the moment we checked out I felt the essence of royalty. The interior of the hotel is regal and majestic, as I knew it...

Room was very dark, even with all the lights on - due to no daylight getting into the room because there was a huge water tank outside all 3 of our windows (It was the same for both adlioning neighbouring rooms). Room was badly in need of redecorating.
Workmen woke us up very early every morning of our 2 week stay as they were working in rooms along our corridor. They even had a card to get into our room - which they tried to do early one morning - luckily we had the security lock on the door!
The price we paid for the room we were expecting a lot better andwish we had stayed at another hotel for the same price. Further disappointment when we returned home and they had charged our credit card for a bottle of wine from the mini bar that we hadn't even drunk! Very disappointing

I have stayed at the Waldorf a number of times on business, but my wife and I were there on a vacation trip this past week and the hotel was better than ever. Our room was good sized, well appointed, quiet and very comfortable. The flat screen TV was large and easy to operate. The bath was standard hotel size but well equipped. But the most pleasing feature were the employees from the front desk to the maids to the bellmen to the waiters and staff in Oscars - all of these people made us feel truly welcome. Our stay came with vouchers for the Contential breakfast at Oscars which was the most deluxe breakfast of its type we've ever had. While not as plush as some of the deluxe NY hotels like the St. Regis and the Pierre, the hotel is elegant and affordable. I would recommend the Waldorf to anyone traveling to New York. It has a great east side location convenient to Grand Central and to buses and subways.
