Room was very dark, even with all the lights on - due to no daylight getting into the room because there was a huge water tank outside all 3 of our windows (It was the same for both adlioning neighbouring rooms). Room was badly in need of redecorati

I have stayed at the Waldorf a number of times on business, but my wife and I were there on a vacation trip this past week and the hotel was better than ever. Our room was good sized, well appointed, quiet and very comfortable. The flat screen TV was large and easy to operate. The bath was standard hotel size but well equipped. But the most pleasing feature were the employees from the front desk to the maids to the bellmen to the waiters and staff in Oscars - all of these people made us feel truly welcome. Our stay came with vouchers for the Contential breakfast at Oscars which was the most deluxe breakfast of its type we've ever had. While not as plush as some of the deluxe NY hotels like the St. Regis and the Pierre, the hotel is elegant and affordable. I would recommend the Waldorf to anyone traveling to New York. It has a great east side location convenient to Grand Central and to buses and subways.

Horrible
I had always wanted to stay at this hotel, but I was extremely disappointed. The service was horrible, the "follow thru" was laughable, the noise level on my floor was so loud I thought the building was shaking!!

I stayed with a friend for a very special occasions on a 'package' - it was heart breakingly disappointing. Room scruffy, ancient TVs (if you are going to put two in a suite don't let them look like they are the ones that have been discarded from elsewhere), dirty rooms, no bed turn down (because they didn't put on the comforter and pillows in the first place!! they left them stacked in the corner for 4 days). Tiny bathroom - no toiletries, the room not cleaned, noisy, draughty (the maintenance man put gaffer tape around the windows to stop the draughts). Not a great place though probably once was - OK if you want a Starbucks though (I didn't go to NY to stay in a hotel with a starbucks in the basement and meet people sitting on the stairs drinking coffee and eating muffins from a paper bag). After complaining I was offered a night in a luxury suite - oh yes and I am going to return to NY from London to take up this offer and I!!!
