Hotel Review by a traveler from San Francisco, CA - Posted Apr 3, 06
86 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

Although I am usually satisfied with the hotel, I was disappointed in the size and the quality of the room assigned under Hilton Honors program. When advised, I received a free night on my next stay.

I am very likely to return to the The Waldorf Astoria.
I might recommend it to friends.

I stayed at the Waldorf in August 2005 on Hilton reward points. The hotel itself is beautifully restored and is in a great location in Manhattan in walking distance to Central Park, Broadway shows, and the Museum of Modern Art, plus easily accessible subway service. The reception area was extremely busy to the point of being overwhelming. And my room was on the small side and had no view at all. While I recommend the hotel in general, I have a feeling that if you are paying for a room (versus using reward points), you'll likely get a bigger room and better view.

I am somewhat likely to return to the The Waldorf Astoria.
I might recommend it to friends.

I love this hotel. The lobby is beautiful and it is very conveniently located in mid town. The staff is extremely courteous. Their bar features excellent drinks. The beds in the rooms are extremely comfortable.

I am very likely to return to the The Waldorf Astoria.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

The Waldorf Astoria is a beautiful historic hotel conveniently located downtown Manhattan within walking distance of Grand Central. The service is impeccable, and they serve great classis afternoon tea in the lobby. While the stay at the hotel is not cheap, I believe it's a great value given the ambiance, the service and the location!

I am very likely to return to the The Waldorf Astoria.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

It's a beautiful hotel. I slept in the most comfortable bed. The toilet was clogged when I arrived, but they fixed it within a half hour. I felt that, even though the hotel is so large, the service could have been more personal.

I am somewhat likely to return to the The Waldorf Astoria.

It was an elegant, well-appointed hotel. The staff was very pleasant. The lighting in the room was mediocre but the bedding was awesome. The cocktail lounge was extremely pleasant, though Oscars was unimpressive. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I am very likely to return to the The Waldorf Astoria.

The Waldorf Astoria is a gorgeous place. Great location within walking distance of Grand Central Station, Fifth Avenue, and even Broadway/Times Square. However, the bathroom in our room was pretty standard - I expected more from the website pictures. The bed was amazingly comfortable!

It was frustrating at first when we had plans for the evening we needed to get ready for, and we were told we couldn't check in until 3:00. It was sorted out and we were able to check in. The hotel is a nice place, but I probably wouldn't stay again for the price.

It was a wonderful art-deco style hotel experience. It may be a little pricey, but you only live once. I advise others to try to stay at the Waldorf Towers, an all-suite area of the hotel.

I was very disappointed with the Tea. It took a very long time for someone to greet and seat us; three tries before we got tea cups without lipstick stains and quite a while till we were able to get more hot water for our tea. It was hardly what I expected from Tea at the Waldorf.

I am very likely to return to the The Waldorf Astoria.

$300 per night and the room is about the size of a walk in closet. The wallpaper does nothing to make this tiny space any cozier. Really really really really overpriced.

Hopefully this hotel has got its act together. When I stayed here, the room I was allocated hadn't been made up after the last guest had departed. On the upside, the staff were very helpful and gave me a suite with a great view.

This was just as well because the first room wasn't worth the price I was paying.

So value-for-money is the only downside here: be sure to complain if you don't like the room you're offered.

That aside it's a great hotel and, if it's your first trip to the Big Apple but you don't want to fork out a wedge for the Plaza, this is the place to stay.

I am very likely to return to the The Waldorf Astoria.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.
