Marriott
Located in downtown San Francisco atop historic Nob Hill, this is a convenient place to be, as the cable cars are also nearby. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, although a little dated in the furnishings. The lobby is quite dramatic with a stained-glass dome and a 360° mural, depicting early San Francisco history. The restaurant, Fournou's Ovens, serves a seasonal menu, has an excellent selection of wine and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a pianist playing during high tea and the bar also serves cocktails, fine champagne and wines by the glass. There is also a fitness center and business center on site. The staff are helpful and polite.

This recently renovated Nob Hill retreat remains true to its heritage as the showcase mansion of Leland Stanford while incorporating modern touches, such as Aurea, the inventive restaurant and lounge. Tiffany- style stained-glass domes in the courtyard entrance and Aurea are reminders of the site's glamorous past. Recreational amenities include a fitness center with state-of-the-art cardiovascular and weight training equipment. Guestrooms. I've been to SF a dozen times and recently stayed at the Stanford Court, my third time there. The decor (new since my last stay 3 years ago) is fresh and elegant. The staff all were friendly and helpful; front desk, concierge, restaurant, bellmen.
