The Standard has truly achieved the status of a Hollywood classic, attracting an eclectic clientele from around the world and its own backyard. The Standard, located in the heart of the Sunset Strip, is a true original. The hotel is the vision of hotelier André Balazs, who has conceived a new generation of classic properties - soulful and utterly unique. Balazs' properties are united not only by a carefully considered sense of place and pioneering design, but also by relentless attention to detail and atmosphere.
The Standard caters to a young-spirited clientele who appreciate the hotel's ?timeless modern? design and offbeat sensibility. The hotel features a floor to ceiling shag carpeted lobby lounge, a live DJ at the Front Desk, an outdoor pool with a sundeck covered in cobalt blue AstroTurf, an ongoing exhibition devoted to fine art video, and live performance art. The hotel is also home to Rudy's barbershop and a poolside desert café. Dim lights and beaded curtains set the stage for the ultra-cool Restaurant 24/7, which has a menu crafted to satisfy any craving, any time. The Standard Lounge continues to be one of Hollywood's most fashionable nightspots.
The décor is sleek and classically modern. Highlights include platform beds, silver beanbag chairs, electric orange bathrooms, rockin' mini bars with all the essentials, complimentary WiFi access, iPod docks, and flat-screen TVs. All the conveniences with none of the humdrum.

The atmosphere of The Standard is top notch and my favorite part was the incredibly comfortable king bed in the Sunset room. On top of that, I got a deal for $199 at http://www.standardhotels.com/summer-promo/.

Excellent
This hotel definitely isn't for the old (or old at heart). It is The Standard, after all. Nestled in the heart of busy Sunset Blvd, the hotel is close to many a trendy eatery and swanky night hot spot. In fact, The Standard itself is quite a place...

I stay 3 nights last year (September 2006) with my girlfriend.
I booked a room with private balcony and city view by the net. The balcony was at the swimming pool floor, and without a city view and without privacy. I only saw and heard noisy girls and boys.
The Standard is a bar, not a hotel. So don't sleep here!

Do not stay here! My husband and I stayed at the Standard for a long weekend in August 2006. We chose the hotel because it was the last hotel in that location with a room less than $900 per night. The first morning, I left the room at 8 am and returned at 6 pm to find that a necklace with 3 large diamonds in my jewelry case at the bottom of my closed suitcase was gone, along with a purse and another necklace. The hotel did virtually nothing, except file an insurance claim which was denied because "the staff said they didn't take anything." Of course they said that, they are criminals. If you must stay here, then don't bring anything of value with you!

The Standard in Hollywood is the perfect place for travelers looking for a true Los Angeles experience. The decor is hip and modern, the employees and guests are beautiful, and the location is smack dab in the middle of the west side, on Sunset Blvd. Perhaps the best part is the hotel's restaurant - awesome food, open 24 hours a day, frequented by celebrity and industry-types that are interesting to eavesdrop on.

Good
This is a less expensive alternative to the Mondrian. It has a more local hip feel to the hotel. The bar and view are great. They have their own DJ spinning grooves. A true Hollywood experience. The diner rocks also and it is open until 3.
