we have stayed at the schooner a few times but this time takes the cake.. first of all are air conditioning wouldnt cool the room the hot tub was small and we couldnt use it because the room got to hot and water driped down from the vent.they were booked so they couldnt give us another room so they gave us a box fan to try and cool the room.. we went down to the pool to try and cool off and there was human feces floating in the pool and it was on me and my husband. i let the staff know the closed the pool the rest of the night ,so there went our cooling off. the next morning there was still poop on the side of the pool after they cleaned it. they were really not very concerned about it or how horrable our stay was.. we couldnt even watch tv because the tv made a a loud buzzing noise and every few minuts a bigger buzzing beep.ugg!! finally the manager came in and he was not very careing about the situation but he did give me 56.00 off our 190.00 room ugg!!.. which was the very minimum. he shuld have done more.
The schooner inn had okay staff and the beach was very nice and i liked the bike rentals in front of the hotel. The room needed some upgrades and the tolit was comming off of the floor every time you sat down on it and sometimes when you would call...
I stayed here for 2 nights. It was very nice, the room was clean, the staff was friendly, pool was clean. They need to have more parking for vistors. I really liked the idea of being away from all the noise.

First off I was at a joint war fighting conferene at the va beach convention center and I did not look very hard for accomodations.
So this is my fault for staying here. I checked in on Sunday around 3 pm and was greeted by a nice girl who I never saw again. I was first issued a card to room 527 the door and card reader were so rusty the door would not open. Finally an hour later they did something so i could go in. I wanted to take a nap however the room was 89 degrees yes 89 degrees. There are sensors in the rooms that measure body temperature before the so called air conditioning will operate. Numerous things did not work such as mentioned below. I called and was moved to 525 this was not much better. Now I know what you are thinking why didnt you just check out and leave. I would have however I was told by the front desk no refunds sorry. At 140 per nights I just wasted nearly a grand.
Here are the main highlights of why I do not recommend this motel.
I was Charged for 5 days only stayed 4 I was told there is nothing we can do call hotels.com.
They do not give receipts after you check out. So who knows what you actually pay for.
No air conditioning ( The best i could get is 75 degrees) I opened the duct and the filter was black and mildewed. You know how the ones for the house are supposed to be white or blue.
Rude Staff they answer phone call after phone call and make you wait until they are done instead of asking the caller to hold.
The mini refrigerator in the room did not work
The water pressure was very weak. Hence it took nearly 45 minutes to fill the hot tub.
The humidity is so great in the room that there is a layer of moisture over everything. The AC rattled and leaked condensation.
The furniture is so old and outdated that the laminate is peeling off. The towels and sheets on the bed are as rough as sandpaper.
The cable television is not bad however I could only get 5 channels. So if you are on vacation and it starts to rain you better bring a deck of cards.
The cleaning staff were nice however only one person spoke english.
When you tried to sleep you could hear the neighbors on both sides snoring. The walls are paper thin.
No wireless internet that works
No Ironing board or iron.
If I was still in college and needed a place to crash after a party I guess its okay however I would never let a member of my family stay there.
We have stayed at the Schooner for 15 stays for our annual Virginia Beach vacation. The Schooner is in a great location, at the South end of the beach away from everything - BUT stores, etc. are a short walk away or accessible via trolly. For the...
We stayed in a 2 room suite. It has everything you need. All the dishes, little fridge, stove, microwave. Was a nice place to stay for the money. It is located at the end of the strip and not alot going on at that end of the strip which I liked....
Staff could care less.Just do enough to get by.Hot tub had water in it when we got there.Had to run water thru it flush out crude b4 using. The kingsize bed was nothing more than 2 double beds pushed together with some sort of pad to close the gap...

We loved the Schooner!! The price was great. It was very clean. The decor was modern. The bed was larger than a king. The kitchenette was nice. The heart shaped jacuzzi made my jaw drop!
Staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, at times downright rude. Poor plumbing. There was a major water leak in the hallway. Staff's solution was to place buckets and trash cans beneath the "drips" for a day or so. Toilet in our room over flowed. ...
location and value. staff attentive when needed. location is suited for families not to party. close to beach. airplanes from nearby air base can be loud, but not overbearing.
