Over the years we have stayed at the Royal over 40 times with stays up to 2 weeks each. The experience is always top notch. The staff is beyond compare.
We consider many of them our personal friends and are always treated as such. The Surf Room Friday night buffet sets the standard for a top notch dinner experience. My only concern is that the hotel is closing for renovation in the summer of 2008, for approx 6 months. I hope that they do not price themselves out of my range when reopening. They are almost out of my range now, however the service and feel of the hotel along with the fantastic staff keeps us coming back. I hope I can say the same after the renovation is complete.
My only complaint is that at times loud music from events on the grounds of the Royal or near by Sheraton can be annoying and loud. Management should try to control this, as it distracts from the relaxing atmosphere. Otherwise, I say Mahalo to all who work at and love the Royal.

Horrible
If you're going to spend this kind of money, the true hawaiian luxury hotel is the Kahala Hotel and Resorts, the Marriott Ihilani, the Halekulani Hotel, or the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The latest AAA rating I saw in November didn't rate this as one ...
This hotel is closing and rightfully so! The legendary service quoted in it's own advertising doesn't exist if you ever dealt with them Spend your precious dollars for a luxury hotel at the Kahala Hotel, Halekulani, the Marriott Ihilani or even better the Hilton Hawaiian Village where you get the best bang for your bucks and get true legendary service.

I have been an occasional Royal client for over thirty years. Modernization was difficult but it happened, so the Royal hotel is retaining its name and reputation in the new century.
I am somewhat likely
to return to the The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort.
I might recommend it to friends.
