Excellent
19 year old with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

I'm 19, and my family went to the Royal two years ago. We stayed here for two reasons-Because an entire episode of Charlie's Angels was shot there, and my sister is obsessed, and my grandfather was a World War II Subvet who had R&R here during the war.

That said, those are horrible reasons for staying here. The great reasons for staying here are 1) The great hospitality and welcome. The staff was so helpful. The concierge, the Desk clerk, the wait staff, everyone was so nice and embodied what you expect from Hawaii. 2) The Exclusivity. The Royal is expensive, but it is worth it as they make you feel like a King. Fruit basket, gold coins every night. I asked for information on the history of the hotel, (being a history buff,) back in The States, and they sent me a $12.00 book FREE from their gift shop prior to my visit. Watch the rich and beautiful come and go. 3) The History. The building is beautiful, second to none except perhaps the Moana in Honolulu. The Maitai was invented here, as well as the Shirley Temple. That's right, because Ms. Temple stayed here in the 30's. So did F.D.R., Burns and Allen, Henry Ford II, and innumerable others. When you walk in, you almost feel like looking for the flappers. 4) The food. Sure it's expensive, but if you can do the luau, (Even if you're not staying here,) you should. It is so good. The food is immense, and even my usually teetotaling parents had fun with the "free" Maitais. If you want Taro and Roasted Pork, come and get it!

5) An incredible experience. I felt like I was stepping back in time. Beautiful, refined, and welcoming are all words that describe the Royal. We stayed in the Tower, Oceanfront, and were very happy. The view, Diamond Head, and being right on Waikiki are all what one desires when you visit Hawaii.

My only regret is the stupid, ugly concrete Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center which blocks views of the hotel from the road. Also how close they built the Sheraton to the Royal. Oh well, this is Waikiki, some of the most expensive shoreline in the world. Oh, and if you want to stay where The Brady Bunch stayed, stay at the Sheraton!

Take the plunge and have the time of your life at the Royal!
