I worked at the Queen Mary for many years and heard complaints about how horrible it is or heard amazing stories on how they love the ship. There are some things I wanted to point out that might help those people that are "iffy" about staying onboard. Let's remember the ship was built in 1930 so of course you won't get the luxury of a Hilton or a high end hotel. People get upset because there are not enough outlets...well true, but you want to preserve the wood in the rooms so adding more is not an option. Theres 56 diffrent types of woods on this ship, 3 of which are extinct. Also, wireless is offered on the ship, but its pretty hard to get wireless on a ship made out of metal! You can get it in the lobby, bars and resturants. Theres also kiosk onboard. Also, don't get mad if you don't have a balcony or a hot tub, the ship wasn't made that way. There are many things that people complain about...but remember you're not at a regular hotel. If you love history you'll love this ship! I reallllllly recommend a tour!!!!

60 year old male with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
First of all, Stay Away from the Queen Mary if there is any sort of special event on the premises. You will not be able to park anywhere near, and to get a taxi you will have to fight the security guards, who consider it their duty to shoo all those annoying yellow vehicles away so important people (you're not one) can drive in and out, oh-so-slowly. Should you make the mistake of offering a positive suggestion, like "Why not designate a taxi pick-up zone and make people happy?" the Executive Director of Security will tell you haughtily, "Because we don't have to." They apparently don't have to give a hoot about anyone but themselves, either.

Very overpriced restaurants but good food. Deluxe King was not a deluxe by any stretch of the imagination. HVAC runs on high all the time in every room. Be prepared for a noisy fan and very cold air.

Let's start with the fact that the Queen Mary is an old ship. It is historical and therefore, has a few upkeep problems. It is an Art Deco Lover's Dream. The wood paneling, the metal details, the lighting fixtures, the fixture of the rooms and bathrooms is a throw back to this wonderful ship's glory days (remember, people back then were a little shorter and smaller). The history of the Queen Mary is worth the stay alone.
Okay, since the ship is old, it had its problems...at certain times of the year, some rooms cannot regulate the heat and they become a sauna. This happened the first night. We got changed into another room the second night and it was cool as a cucumber, but the beds were harder than concrete. In 48 hours, I perhaps got 3 hours of sleep. We cut our stay short due to this.
I am still not unhappy with the Queen Mary. The Front Desk (and in fact, all of the staff of the QM) were most hospitable and gracious. They had no problem in switching our rooms, telling us about the attractions, where to get certain beverages, ice machines...they were best hotel staff I have ever come across. When we went to check out and told them the reason why, they were most accommodating, as they told us since we had prepaid on a website, they couldn't refund the night. They told us to call the customer service on the website, and when the website would contact the QM, they would explain the situation. In short, we got the refund for the 3rd night.
We will be back to the Queen Mary. I would suggest in upgrading to a better room (not the 2 twins without a window). I do look forward to my next visit.

The room was too cold and it took awhile to have it repaired. The bed was comfortable. The restaurant service was slow. It is old and it probably should be refurbished.
I am somewhat likely
to return to the The Queen Mary Hotel.
I might recommend it to friends.
