The Palmer House Hilton is a beautiful hotel. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. It would be helpful to have maps of the area highlighting the restaurants and things to see. There is one available but it is extremely confusing and getting directions from the concierge was extremely confusing too as he only gave verbal directions. If you are not familiar with the area, it is very difficult to find your way around. Otherwise, it was a spectacular stay and my husband and I hope to visit again.
The hotel has a beautiful lobby where people gather to just sit and talk. This felt very welcoming and warm. The room had everything we needed which provided for our comfort.
I am very likely
to return to the The Palmer House Hilton.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Checking in at the HHonors desk was very quick. HHonors staff was polite, respectful, and very friendly. Upon opening the door to our room it was easy to see we were not in one of the newly remodeled rooms. It was also clear to see that our room was ...

When you look at pictures of the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago you are led to believe that you are in for a grand five star experience. The actual experience, however is quite the opposite. While the lobby area is grand it belies the complete experience. I will begin by listing the positive attributes and follow with the negative.
Positive:
*Downtown locality
*Attentive service
Negative:
*No wireless internet in the room: There is an ethernet connection but this only benefits those who are willing to pay $15 dollars a day to be connected!
*The air conditioning is uneven throughout the whole building and was very inadequate in my room: Even though the thermostat was set as low as possible (less than 60 degrees F) the room was so hot that I had to sleep with no covers and even then I was on the verge of sweating. As a point of reference my preferred temperature is 70 degrees. As a disclaimer to what I have just stated I can only attest to the discomfort I felt in the in which I stayed.
*Want to use the workout facility? Oh that will cost you $11 each time.
*There is bottled water in the room when you arrive. Twenty ounces for the bargain price of $3.45 per bottle.
*Room service is of course always expensive and not recommended, but it is ruthlessly absurd at the Palmer House.
*Need a role away bed for another guest? $30/night!
*When I was there 08/04/07 through 08/08/07 there were renovations in progress. Every morning about 6:00 AM you could count on waking up whether you wanted to or not!
And all this for the bargain price of $259.00 per night!!! And that is a discounted rate.

The rooms were not ready until 3. That was a little bit inconvenient, because we brought the train to town and the kids were tired. My sister and mother's rooms were upgraded to executive level, while ours was not. I would've liked to be near them. Other than that, the service was great. The room was very clean. We were on the 13th floor which was just renovated. Most service people were friendly. The restaurant downstairs came in handy when we had to wait for our room. It was very near Millenium Park, which we loved. I would definetly stay here again, or recommend to anyone.
