27 year old with a economy budget, traveling for leisure
I LOVED this hotel. Apart from it's incredibly awesome location, (across from Penn stn, which is a major transport hub, perfect for tourists travelling on the cheap and alone!) and felt so safe in the area i was out walking ON MY OWN in manhattan at midnight on a Monday night. Affordable food options nearby, fantastic shopping for souvenirs, AT&T store five minutes away, as well as being only a ten minute walk from Times Square and Broadway!!!
You could choose to waste more money on a fancier, more central Manhattan hotel, but WHY?!?! This hotel is beautiful Art Deco (but all brand new rooms!) with a history (did you know Nicola Tesla lived there?) and character. Unlike those more expensive hotels, this place felt like home even after only five minutes there, and their tower rooms (i was lucky enough to get an upgrade) have little terrace balconys, big enough for six to eight people to sit down and eat on if need be. Beautiful views of the city day and night, ABSOLUTELY NO TRAFFIC SOUNDS!! (a miracle in new york) and an affordable option for travllers who are sick of the lack of security and homeliness found in hostels (which, by the way, cost almost as much to stay in that area!!)
I'm going back again this year, and i can't wait!! New Yorker was top on my list!!
This is the perfect hotel for our girls weekend in NYC,we had a great room with 2 beds and 2 bathrooms. We will definitely make this our place to stay in the future!!

Good
We (2 of us) were there 22-25 (checking out on the 26th) of Dec. 08. The price we paid for those days was fantastic for NYC according to prices I am seeing for other dates. Maybe that was a "low season" price. We arrived by Amtrak - so rolling...

Excellent
The only downside was having to pay the $***+ rate just for New Year's Eve, but that's to be expected in a high-traffic town on a night when everyone wants to be in NYC. Room was a bit tiny and dated (art deco motif), but comfortable. Wi-fi...

The Hotel New Yorker was okay. The rooms are very, very small, but not by NY standards. We had a queen bed which was very comfortable, with two nightstands and a small desk. That left just enough room to walk around the bed. You could not stand...

We selected this hotel mainly because the price was one of the best rates during the holidays. We traveled with two small children (8 & 5 years) and using Google Street View I scouted around the hotel and we welcomed a McDonalds and TGI Fridays ...

The New Yorker is located within walking distance of all the major midtown attractions. If you have plans downtown, or any part of the area, Penn Station is RIGHT THERE- with all the connecting undergrown trains. We also enjoyed having the Tic Tock ...
