This is a beautiful art deco hotel, located in the heart of South Beach, next door to the Delano (which is overrated but still worth a look) and a few blocks from Nobu and the shopping areas.
The best part about the hotel is the pool area. There are actually 2 pools - a long lap pool about 3 feet deep and 100 yards long which makes you feel like you're back in the 1950s (in a cool, hip way), and a larger pool at the beach end of the hotel, near the pool bar and lounge chairs. There was a fun crowd at the pool during the day, and I had a fun time hanging out - there was plenty of sun and lots of places to sit in the shade too.
My room was relatively cozy but comfortable, and very quiet. I appreciated and used the free wifi with no problems. I used valet parking at $30/night that was very quick to retrieve my car.
The downsides are that I had a problem with my luggage. I had checked it with the valet earlier in the day, and it took them over 45 mins to deliver it to my room once I checked in. I would have picked it up myself had I known it would have taken so long.
The workout room was also unimpressive - located in a basement room with minimal equipment and no windows and a funny smell. I guess most people come to Miami Beach to relax, not exercise.
Perhaps most important for visitors to South Beach, is that the hotel itself isn't a scene after dark. There was no one at the bar around 10pm and the pool bar was likewise dead. This may be a plus if you like a quieter place that is still close to the action.
