I was in Monterey for 11 nights and I'm so glad I chose to stay at the Vagabond Inn. It was a great value for what I paid and I will definitely be back. The service was...

Okay
Room: The room was clean, but needs updating. The pillows are very thin and you will likely need to ask for extras. One of the beds in the room literally had springs that clanked every time you rolled over to that side.
Amenities: There are few...

Good
Room was spacious and clean.Lobby was still closed at designated breakfast time. The room was spacious and clean. Fireplace was nice to have, although it's on a timer, so you do hear it ticking away, which can make the romantic ambiance feel a bit...

Bargain Hunters Beware - Not a deal. No Air Conditioning (Rooms are hot), Noisy Neighborhood, No Pool, Not Family Friendly, Management Unfriendly, Early Check In Fee, Not that close to the sites My agent had thought this place had a pool, it didn't so I complained to my agent who in turn called the general manager. When I came to the front desk to advise I found another hotel the next day, the same manager (who came to the front desk in sweat pants and undergarment tank top) notified me that we needed to leave immediately or be escorted by Monterey police. Never mind that it was 9am and check out was 11am...I hadn't even really checked out either. Rather vindictive and a poor reflection on the ownership of this establishment, which I thought from prior feedback was decent - wrong! Am wondering who really filled out the other 'positive' feedback. Maybe a good place for a backpacking student with low standards...not for romantic getways and not for families. Your girlfriend or wife won't appreciate this place. Even with the flimsy electric fireplace.
I am not likely
to return to the The Munras Lodge.
I would not recommend it to friends.

Excellent
This room was a great value. The room was large and spacious, spotless, and the bed was relativly comfortable. We were close enough to all kinds of activities, yet far enough away to enjoy the quiet.

We stayed here for two nights and found the Munras Lodge to be a very nice place to stay.
The reservations were simple, and the office staff was very helpful. The maids did a very good job at cleaning and were willing to accommodate us when we asked them clean the room at a later time. When they cleaned, they did an excellent job.
We asked the staff for an extra towel and pillow at one point and they were waiting for us in the office when I went to go pick them up.
The room itself was spacious, but not very luxurious. Its an older hotel and could use an upgrade, but for our purposes it was more than sufficient. We were in town for a wedding and were not going to spending a large amount of time in our room. The bathroom had all the amenities one would expect, shampoo, soap, a hair dryer, coffee, and the room also had a micro-fridge.
They had high speed internet access in all the rooms, and when we connected, it was a breeze.
The room also had a nice little gas fireplace, while although it wasnt fantastic, it was a nice little touch to have one.
They have a really huge hot tub, but when we visited, it was being renovated with new tiles, and it was closed. If you really want a place with a hot tub, you may want to call and ask if they have re-opened the hot tub yet.
They serve a continental breakfast in the morning, complete with a self service Belgian waffle maker. They dont have a huge selection of items, but if you just want to eat something on the go, its not bad. Theres a fast food establishment just down the block if you want something a little more substantial, but otherwise it, was OK.
We had a very nice stay, and the price was very good, considering how much is being charged locally for other hotels. Its not far from anywhere in Monterey, but since Monterey is a relatively small place, its hard to find a bad location here.

The room was nice. The king size bed was good, firm and not run down. I was expecting gas fire place set into the wall. It was one you get at k-mart and you plug it in to the wall. We thought that was the only source of heat until we saw the...

Okay
Not sure how travel website does their ratings. It was very clean, room very simplistic. Great for business travel. Surely a NO FRILLS hotel/motel. Hot tub/sauna under repair. Great location if not bothered by walking or driving.
