I go to Las Vegas every year for an automotive conference and have stayed in various hotels based on where my everyone else in my company is staying (we get a block of rooms). This year, we decided to stay at the Mirage. I was there for four nights from Oct 29 to Nov 2).
Overall, the hotel is very nice inside and the people working at the restaurants and casinos were friendly and helpful (they get 5 stars). People at the front desk were somewhat cold in my opionion (3 stars). They never welcomed me to the hotel upon checkin nor asked me how my stay was when I checked out. I would recommend visiting the Mirage, but when it comes to the rooms, I would not stay there again unless they remodel and clean their rooms (this gets 1 star).
My room was looked like the picture they show you on the web site, but what you can't see is the dirt that is everywhere. In my room, there was mold in the bath tub in the corner and under the handicap bar, the bottom of my sink had rust on it, the Moen faucets looked like they had been scratched with steel wool, the side of the vanity had mold on it, there was a large piece of Hershey chocoloate on the floor under my desk and the carpet outside of EVERY room in my hallway was filthy - you could see the dirt as the carpet did not look like it had been cleaned in years.
Probably the only other complaint is the lack of insulation in the rooms to quiet the noise. You could easily hear people walking down the hall or in the rooms around you (next to you or across the hall). Being Vegas (an all night town), this can constantly wake you up at night.
I talked to a collegue of mine who stayed there as well - he mentioned that he had mold in various spots within his bathroom as well. Compared to other hotels on the strip, the Mirage's bathrooms are very small.
As I mentioned, I have stayed at other places within the Vegas strip recently, including the Venetian (5 stars), Bally's (4 stars), Ceasars (4.5 stars) and Treasure Island (4 stars) and will probably stay at one of them again next year.
I can review two of the restaurants - the Caribe Cafe where I had breakfast (very good!) and Undon (Italian restaurant - pretty good, but not exceptional for the average $60+ per person dinner meal price).
Overall, not a great recommendation for a hotel that should be above average.
